Read what parents are saying about Smaller Scholars Montessori SchoolMy daughter had an accident in school, teacher didn’t even notice. She was 3 at the time. When confronted, the teacher told us: well because I didn’t witness the accident, I didn’t inform you because I don’t know the details. So irresponsible. The school has $580 credit in our account. Instead of voluntarily refunding us, they just kept our money and refused refund despite multiple tries to get refund from them. Not student focused, more money focused.
Posted by a community member on 6/7/2023We love SSMA Dairy Ashford, It's been a wonderful environment for our two kids.We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Smaller Scholars Montessori Academy for the incredible job they do each and every day. They have equipped our sons with the tools for success in life. During the course of their years at SSMA, we have seen their self-esteem and confidence grow in leaps and bounds. Teachers, Assistants, and Directors are all extraordinarily caring, wonderful, nurturing people who always put the children first.100% recommended
Posted by a parent on 5/11/2022I love the school - - the building, the teachers, the staff, the community.
Posted by a parent on 4/17/2020My children have been at Smaller Scholars for almost a year and they love their school. They are both in the primary community however my youngest did join the toddler classes first and recently moved up. I think the school is very effective at communicating with the parents on the benefits of the Montessori system and how it’s put into practice and what we can expect to see from our children. In addition, the school does fun events for the kids which involve the parents - a St Jude bike-a-thon, an International Day Parade, a Christmas recital, a summer festival with a wagon ride, petting zoo and cake walk to name a few. Around Christmas time they also had a Parent’s Night Out that was offered free to us.The addition of the new Head, Ms. Golanski, has helped elevate this school and the changes she has made are noticeable. In fact, whenever my 4 year old son sees her from a distance he chases her down for a hug. She always takes the time to talk to parents and children and my son’s reaction to her presence is amazing to see.The Assistant Director, Ashley, is very friendly and helpful and gets to know you and your children and is great with connecting with especially as you first enroll in school. The teachers my children have been with are very effective - loving, kind and nurturing and I can tell my children have bonded well with them - because the time the teachers have taken with them and the personal interest they’ve shown to them. You can really see the teachers light up when they talk about your child or the Montessori education system and it’s evident they really believe in the method of education and the good it does for your child. I would mention the teachers by name here, however in my interactions with the other teachers I have seen that they also have the same care, attention and passion for their responsibility! This is a uniformed school with free dress on Fridays (also show and tell day). I can see a noticeable difference in my children as they have attended this school - they are more independent and want to try things for themselves. They have flourished at this school and the administration really values and gets to know you as the parent.
Posted by a parent on 2/5/2019I couldn't be happier with our experiences in the Toddler and Primary classrooms for both of our children. Everything from potty training, to science, math, and social skills were taught in such a way to make it seem effortless and natural. We have also had a great experience with the Elementary school during summer camps where our child came home excited every day and voluntarily explaining the things they discussed during camp. There was definitely no summer slide because the camps kept the kids engaged and entertained.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageComing froma magnet school to ashford was a drastic change for my kids. The teachers were kind and loved my kids but there's no challenge for my kids at this school. I never saw homework. It wasn't given. 1 or 2 projects and 1 field trip for only my eldest kids (she told me 2 were canceled because the students were disrespectful to the teachers and the good had to suffer for the bad very often). I as a parent had to deal with my youngest being bullied and also witnessed bullying walking from the school to my home. I've also witnessed on many occasions children almost getting hit by a car on kirkwood going home. For the kids in this school zone, there need to be a cross guard on kirkwood, the parents need to control and walk with there kids and the school need to challenge the students and inforce a strict bullying policy so the kids can be safe at the school and walking home.Parent Review11mo ago - Shadowbriar Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has been enrolled at Ray K Daily for the last three years. He is thriving. The teachers and staff truly care about the well rounded learning experience. Principal Khaliq makes sure that parents are informed and works to build a school community. I am an active member of the PTO which shows how much the Principal supports parent involvement. The teachers care and communicate often. Ms. Pena is incredibly supportive with wraparound services for students, parents, and teachers.Parent Review5mo ago - Nottingham Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have never had a bad experience with NHE. I was shocked at the reviews I read. I may need to move soon and it is so hard to find a rental zoned to this school. People are trying their best to be in this zone. All of the teachers, parents and children I have met have been awesome and my son loves it and I am very sad to be possibly leaving.Parent Review5mo ago - Memorial Christian Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThey have high teacher turnover. There are high students ratio for a teacher so they are overworked. I observed on their on site tvs, that a teacher aggressively grab a child arm and swung her over the seat. I observed new teachers come and learn the job responsibilities and move on to a better place. The teachers who are staying longer are the ones who take advantage of their own children at the care and so leave at their kid’s graduation. The facility is old. The restroom often smells like kids urine on the walls and I had to ask for so many requests to have them cleaned. Kids use the rocks that are the foundation of the playground to throw at others. I even saw a kid in the middle of open area trying to eat the rock and no one from the teachers stopped him. During Christmas, parents give the teachers some gifts and some feels bribery because they were very obviously treating the kid differently. This feels so wrong.Parent Review6mo ago - Westside Montessori School
