Read what parents are saying about Pershing Middle SchoolWorst experience with HISD! ALL of the staff from the front desk to the teachers to the principals are especially rude and lack empathy. As soon as you walk into the school it feels dark and depressing. As soon as I could get my child out of this school I did. The Principal seems to be there for a paycheck and has a bad attitude, which makes sense since that is the way the staff members act as well. My kids were depressed and hated going to school here, I wished I would have pulled them out sooner.
Posted by a parent on 10/26/2023Please Choose better for your children. The staff is rude and there is constant bullying. As a parent be prepared to fight for your child if they attend this school because it is designed to fail these children. Choose better for your children, they deserve better.
Posted by a parent on 5/18/2023We have been very impressed with Pershing for the two years that our child has attended. You can tell that staff and principal care about the school and it's students. I also appreciate the principal's transparency. The PTO is very engaged in providing what the school needs to improve each year. The few times I have had a question or problem, I have received a response within a day. We didn't even apply to any other middle schools for my younger child, who will be joining Pershing in the Fall!
Posted by a parent on 4/13/2023A very inclusive environment with encouragement from some wonderful staff, but I feel as if there is a bit of a rough environment where swearing, racial slurs, ect. and I feel as though there isn't enough monitoring on top of other items in the school and one last thing, I believe they follow the policing theory of broken windows and warning and detentions are being handed out for the littlest or stupidest reasons for example, standing up to get water during lunch when you may not supposed to stand up and the child may not know may not know. Posted by a parent on 12/25/2022I really liked Pershing when my child began. It started out strong in 6th grade. By 7th grade, the school’s population increased beyond its capacity. It happened again in 8th. By 8th grade, the kids were feeling the impact of an over crowded school. There are just way too many kids who attend. I did hear that teachers were overwhelmed with poor student behavior as well. We heard this from the principal formally in a meeting, and from the students as well because their teachers told them all the time. They have a notable fine arts program but some of those classes were overcrowded, too. Creative writing had 40 students in one class that wasn’t designed to hold that many kids in a classroom. The teacher was frustrated because there was no way to create a space for that many kids to write in a quiet environment. My child left creative writing even though they loved it before that year of an overcrowded class.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you could or want to afford a decent house in this area just for the school, then, think twice. The school is having a lot of student discipline issues; teacher student ratio is higher comparing to the other HISD good schools. Principal refused to hire a music teacher for already over two years. As a language magnet school, there is only one Spanish teacher to teach the entire school (800+) students who picked Spanish as their magnet course.Parent Review1y ago - Longfellow Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is a great school. My grandkids started to school there around the year 2010. The oldest is in his first year of college now. The second oldest granddaughter is graduating and on her way to college. I still have grandchildren there. The teachers are, for the most part, exceptional and in all my years I have never seen a Principal work so hard, so it seems to have a trickle down effect to the rest of the employees there. This is a good school to send your kids to.Parent Review11mo ago - Twain Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love St. Mark’s. We have been a part of the community for three years and have two kids enrolled. The teachers genuinely care about the well being of our children and we have been amazed by the school leadership. Teachers have been open and honest with us about our kids strengths and areas of concern. We considered public school this past year for one of our kids but ultimately came to the conclusion that St. Mark’s offers a superior academic experience and community to our highly rated public school option. We honestly feel lucky to have our kids at St. Mark’s. It may not have the street cache of some other private schools, but we feel confident we will have academically prepared (and socially well adjusted) kids graduate.Parent Review1y ago - Beresford School
