Helbing Elementary School

Won’t include details in fear of retaliation. My child attended here last school year (2023-2024). Our experience was really overwhelmingly bad. The bus was often broken down leaving kids stranded at school. They would call and say that I should have been at the school 20 minutes ago (how was I supposed to know?) they then threatened to call CPS on me because the bus broke down and they didn’t notify me to pick up my child. The principal was also extremely condescending towards me, asking me questions about my marriage whenever my child would be late (usually doctor’s appointments). I did not feel supported as a parent and I often felt like my child was targeted because he wasn’t receiving enough support at school. Even though we have IEPs and 504s in place. My child is also disabled, so he did have a special class he went to. This is in no way an attack on his teachers. They were amazing. This is a review about the office staff and primarily the principal. No one that unprofessional should be in charge of hundreds of students and staff members.

Los profesores son muy atentos con los padres y con los ni os, la directora es una excelente persona , el personal de la oficina es muy amable!!

This school should be a school of choice. Athletics, lots of clubs and extracurriculars, UIL, garden, STEM school, Blue Zone, After School Program, and extremely loving and dedicated teachers!

Horrible toxic administration! Disrespectful students! Low morale zombie teachers. Never in a million years would I teach here, send my child there!!!

This is my son first year at this school and this will be his last. I'm so disappointed in this school. my son Teachers are great, So are the following teachers next to his classroom. As far as the office Staff is so awful. They never seem to know what is going on of much less have any information on school events. My son Teachers had a meeting with the parents saying how disgusting the food is. So now my son takes his own lunch every day. I just loved hearing about how my tax money can't pay for descent food for the school. I walked into the school before work to drop off my son lunch. I was asked by the office staff with ugly looks on their faces "Are you going to be bring his lunch every day". Yes I will if I have too. So beyond disappointed in this school. Will Never recommend for anyone to send their children to this school. He will not be back next year. The communication in this school with parent is so awful.
