Read what parents are saying about South Middle Schoolthis school is unprofessional. the kids smoke weed behind the portables during lunch and even tried selling it to my son. my son has NEVER participated in these kinds of activities. I've noticed he would come home sad sometimes. he has told me about a few kids called the "taquaches" nagging him and bumping him in the halls. I do not, whatsoever, support the school's action-taking methods. we have tried reporting these incidents several times but the school board would rather keep its status than help their student when in need. do not take your kids here. this school is BAD NEWS!
Posted by a parent on 2/22/2022The teachers do care for the students and want to help and support. However, if the student has a chronic illness which may require accomodations, the administration lacks knowledge on how to handle this to the point that the Dept of Education at Washington DC has to be called and with the help of one of their lawyers, the parents have to instruct the adminstration what needs to be done. It is disappointing and disconcerting that parents have to directly contact the Dept of Education to tell the SMS administration (and the ECISD district, to some extent) how to do their job. Again, the parent is best to communicat one-on-one with the teachers to help a student, who has a chronic illness, with his/her studies. They truly want to help.
Posted by a parent on 2/14/2018All three of my children attended South Middle School and LOVED it while they were there. The classes were challenging and they really liked their teachers, coaches, counselors and administrators. They also had a lot of fun while they were there while participating in sports, band, choir, art, theater arts, school dances and other activities. South Middle School prepared my kids for their high school curriculum, for college, and life in general. My family will always be thankful for the GREAT experience we had at SMS. Go Rebcats!!!
Posted by a parent on 3/15/2015This is one of the worst schools I have ever been to! The six grade principle is rude, towards people. It feels like she doesn't even want to be there. I have a daughter in 7th grade and the teacher only speaks Spanish, my daughter has no clue what he is saying half the time. We are in United States of America, the teachers should be speaking English Not Spanish. This is why we are failing the Star Testing, How can you teach a child if the child has no clue what you are saying? You want to blame the children for not learning I would like to blame the school for hiring the wrong teachers. As for organization this school is far from it. The lunch lines are outrages and for the school budget its sad when teachers are asking parents for printing paper because the school can not afford it! Where are my taxes going too? This school needs a redo from head to toe or it needs to be shut down!

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBullying is a major problem and the ENTIRE staff (principal, teachers, coaches, etc.)Are exetremely negligent and indifferent. Not only that, but they always misplace assignments and fail to follow the rulebook. (Such as if a student is absent, they get time to work on assignments w/o points deducted.)All in all, the worst school i've had to work with.Other Review8y ago - Jefferson Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCall on everything. Write up kids for everything . How can you be a good school if you are writing up elementary kids for goodness sake they are kids just learning their way. Do your job and guide them the right way when they arrive. How sad and what a shame. Having this follow kids yet they call themselves educator and they care about kids. This is not caring about kids but sabotaging them instead of teaching them And molding them - don’t give up on them.Parent Review1y ago
