Read what parents are saying about Ume Preparatory AcademyFor the most part my children enjoy the small school feel and environment. Most of the children are well behaved and you will not see any bullying or skipping, misbehaving that many public inner city schools have. The curriculum is rigorous and challenging which in the long run will help my children be prepared for college. The early dismissal can be a con for working parents. The only complaint I have is that I have come across a few bad apples in the staff. They are rude and condescending. Frankly, some see parents as dumb uneducated idiots whose only benefit for them is that they get state funding for every child present. If they could be more inclusive with the diverse families, it would be a top school.
Posted by a parent on 6/3/2021UME Prep is an excellent school. Our kids are thriving academically, socially, and mentally. The teachers and administrators are fantastic.
Posted by a parent on 3/8/2020Our family loves UME. Our children are gaining a quality education. We have been at the Dallas campus for three years and we have been impressed with every teacher our children have had. They care about the quality of education their scholars receive. There are plenty of hands-on learning experiences. They each have recess time built in to their schedules, even with the unique school schedule. If the school schedule works for your family then UME is an amazing school. They have extra curricular activities you can participate in as young as first grade. We are grateful for the hard work every administrator and teacher give to this school.
Posted by a parent on 12/12/2019I do not recommend this school to anyone. They do not have extracurricular activities, no recess, short lunch break, no foreign language, no technology for the most part. Its worksheet after worksheet and teachers racing through a curriculum because this school chooses to have early dismissal everyday. They explain the lack of recess by saying they leave school early so they can be active when they get home. I didn't realize how important it is until my children no longer had it when they got to this school. Kids need time to learn social interactions in a non classroom environment. Also, recess is good for their physical well-being. In my opinion, the early dismissal was only a benefit for the staff and for parents who prefer to have their kids home earlier. It was not for their educational benefit. Honestly, this school did not demonstrate any college preparatory traits at all. Their students are not advanced at all in comparison to the traditional public school. Do your research, some of the teachers are NOT certified.
Posted by a community member on 9/2/2019Wonderful! We have been at UME since it opened in 2012 and it truly does have a small school feel. The teachers are extremely helpful and do all they can to help your child succeed. The school is committed to work toward developing strong character qualities in your child, and the teacher/parent team is stronger than any public school I have seen.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGreat teachers, teachers really care and go above and beyond. Wish the school administration was more involved with parents and had more activities. Overall I would not transfer my son out and we are very happy academically. AMAZING special needs program !!!Parent Review1y ago - James R Bilhartz Jr Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child attended Bilhartz the last four years. things suddenly went down hill this past year with the change in campus administration. Seems their focus has shifted away from the wellbeing of the kids, to sole focus on state standardized test scores. Plus, they seem to frown upon parent involvement.Parent Review7y ago - La Academia De Estrellas

Parent Review1y ago - Nancy J Cochran Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFor being a local public elementary, I'd say that this school is pretty good. The teachers at this school are very effective at their jobs, and are open to communication with parents and the community. The building itself is in good shape and very clean. Personally, I believe that the culture at the school is quite unique. The parents, teachers, and members of the community strive to make the school the happiest and most effective towards readying kids for the future. I would definitely recommend this school.Other Review3y ago - Thomas Tolbert Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis the worse school anyone could ever bring their children to. Teachers are not there to teach the kids unless they like you. They talk to your children any kind of way and treat them terrible. I wish I would've listen to my neighbor when I first moved to the area stating " please don't let your kids go to that school". Principal and asst. principal don't handle situation in a professional way at all. No matter how much you call or go up to school to inform them of issues your having they still never resolve them. They listen and make excuses for the reason why a teacher said this and that. My child has always been on honor roll but at this school her grades have dropped tremendously and attitudes has totally changed towards school itself. I made a mistake and please whoever reads this DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS GO TO THIS SCHOOL. The school as a whole is so unprofessional and will lie to protect there job!!!!!!Parent Review7y ago - Lighthouse Christian Academy
