5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Average“Students don’t learn from people they don’t like.” Leadership and teachers need to work on how they speak to children of various colors and ethnicity. It’s sad how the office manager and the Fourth grade teacher handle the situation involving an innocent child. Do better so our kids can be led properly.Other Review2y ago9 Reviews - Nancy J Cochran Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAnson Jones Elementary was one of the most disappointing school experiences my son has ever had. We withdrew him in December, and it was the best decision we could’ve made. We moved from Mesquite ISD to Dallas ISD after relocating, and enrolling him here ended up hurting his education instead of helping it.From the very first week, my son said he struggled to understand his teachers because most instruction in his classroom was spoken mainly in Spanish. He does not speak Spanish, and he told me he felt confused, excluded, and unable to follow along. No child should feel like they can’t learn simply because they don’t speak the same language as their teacher. My son also has dyslexia and previously received support in Mesquite ISD, including speech therapy and the Take Flight dyslexia program. At enrollment, I provided his IEP and all documentation. Despite this, months went by with zero communication from the school about services. No accommodations were put in place, and no ARD meeting was ever scheduled. It felt like his needs were completely ignored. My son even told me that when he explained to his teacher he couldn’t understand instructions and needed help, she told him he “needed to pay more attention.” Hearing that was extremely concerning.I brought these issues to the principal several times. Every time, I was told the special education department would contact me. They never did. By December—nearly halfway through the school year—my son was still receiving no services, no support, and no accommodations at all, even though his needs were documented and legally required. We decided to withdraw him and return to Mesquite ISD. Within two weeks of re-enrollment, Mesquite reviewed all of his records, placed him in the correct classes, and restarted his services immediately. This made it clear the problem was not the paperwork—it was the lack of action at Anson Jones Elementary.Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this school to any parent, especially if your child has learning differences or needs accommodations. My son did not feel supported or included, and he did not receive the educational services he was entitled to. Withdrawing him was the only way to make sure he received the education he deserves.Parent Review7mo ago6 Reviews
