Read what parents are saying about Menger Elementary SchoolMenger is a fantastic school. Everyone who works there puts kids first. My son had a great experience at Menger. The teachers love what they do, and it shows. The administration and counselor know each child by name and take time to build relationships with them. I have even witnessed the secretary and custodians interact with students in a kind and caring way. The principal, Dr. Barrera, and the AP, Mrs. Diaz, make sure that Menger is welcoming and safe for every one. The special education team is the best!

Posted by a parent on 3/22/2021I was very hesitant when I found out my recently adopted son would be attending Menger Elementary. The school is located in a historic, downtown location and not surrounded by any family homes. Yet, when I entered the school I was greeted with nothing but smiles and positive attitude. I witnessed the principal welcoming every student by name and asking specific questions about them. She knew them all individually. I instantly changed my mind and felt at home. Over the next 4 years my child went from disliking school and being a troubled kid in foster kid to being a member of a school that values, respects and loves the kids. My son was unable to read when he was entering 2nd grade, by the end of the year he was reading well above his grade level. The school is small, which I loved because it was able to give my son the attention he needed. His 2nd grade teacher was a first year teacher, and she did not miss a beat. The admin team made sure she was up to speed and informed so she could tackle all that was given to her. We enjoyed 3rd grade with the same teacher and most of the same students. Again, having the smaller student body really helped us because everyone feels included and part of something. In 3rd grade there are many clubs and activities offered. Over the next 3 years my son was part of the Running Team, Student Council, Imagination, Principals Advisory Committee, and Safety Patrol. He felt like he belonged. There were times I felt I needed to raise concern about my child and whether it was with grades, behavior, other students or a conflict with a staff, the admin team always took me serious and resolved the matter timely and appropriately. The COVID 19 Pandemic hit when my son was finishing up his 5th grade year, we were sad in our house. My son was sad to miss his last 3 months at a school where he spent the last 4 years learning, growing and building relationships. I was worried that maybe he wasn’t ready to leave elementary school, but then I realized, since attending our elementary my son has grown into an amazing young man and can accomplish anything he sets his mind to. At Menger he was taught and given the skills to adapt, learn and succeed.
Posted by a parent on 3/17/2021Teachers are amazing but administration is just ok. Since Dr. Marroquin and Ms. Murray left it seems like administration is only doing bare minimum to get by. Tutoring wasn't even available last year until the end of the year. Parents at this school are horrible. They do not care about the school and do not volunteer. The PTA was held together by a handful of people working their behinds off because other parents refused to help. The people that don't help are the first to complain and they complain constantly. They have the "everything is someone else's fault" mentality. If it weren't for the excellent, caring teachers I would not keep my child here.
Posted by a parent on 8/28/2015I don't know how this school was given 5 stars. That is a joke! The students there are out of control. The staff doesn't listen and they don't know how to handle children. The kids run the classrooms. They went through 3 vice principles just last year. I heard the first was drinking and going to school. The principal was terrible which is why I'm sure she was forced to resign. Substitutes refused to go there. I over heard that in office conversation. My son was bullied to no end. The students are bullies and their parents just the same. I am happy that my kids are out of there. One year there set my son back. The school he is at now is amazing. Kolda elementary. My kids are doing better than ever before and they truly do what they need there for their students. Menger needs to take some notes from them!

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAllen Elementary is located in the middle of the neighborhood. Very convenient for the families who live nearby to be able to walk to and from school. The campus is small and cozy it has a low enrollment. The benefit from that is the Staff is familiar with the students, their families and are great with helping them when needed. The teachers are great with the students and want each of them to be successful. Go Wildcats!Parent Review3y ago - Travis Elementary School

We pulled him out of another school because there wasn't enough education. This school has been an absolute dream!Parent Review9y ago - La Raza C B C

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is about to begin his third year at First Baptist School, and my daughter will be starting her first year in the Pre-K 2 program in the upcoming fall semester. We have been immensely impressed from day one with everything FBS has to offer, from the loving, nurturing environment to the academic and biblical curriculum. My son is in Pre-K this year, and he can already read and spell simple words and combine phonemes, and he is able to do simple mental addition and subtraction. He can also count beyond 20 at only four years old, and he loves to read and write on his own, which tells me that his teachers have helped him develop an intrinsic love of learning. As a public school teacher myself, I can't express how important that is. They've made learning fun for him, and he values knowledge and understanding, and every day he tells his sister that she needs to come to his school because it is so much fun and she will learn so much.We were very sad to learn that they did away with the 1-5 grade level program for the upcoming school year, but I am sure that times will change again and eventually it will be re-opened.My husband went to school here, and his mother used to teach here years ago and was on the board of directors for many years thereafter, so our family has a ton of pride and faith in FBS. If you're looking for a school that will both nurture and teach your child while fostering a sense of wonder and interest in learning of all sorts, look into the Little Lambs Pre-K 2 & Pre-K 3 Programs, and the Pre-K and Kinder programs at FBS; hopefully, we can spread the word about how wonderful this school is so that the upper grades may begin enrolling again in the coming years.Parent Review6y ago - St Patrick School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you are looking for a private school, this one is the best, hands down. From the car to the classroom, at least 5-6 people greet my son by name and say good morning. As a teacher myself, I have so much respect for how they run things here. It feels like a big family and they genuinely care about your child and how they learn. My son is pretty adhd but his teachers are amazing with him and I can't believe how much better he is in a school setting and the year isn't even over. The way they provide structure and discipline is consistent but loving. This is my first child that has been in school and I am amazed at how much he has learned just in PK3, and he comes home so excited about what they are doing in class. They offer Aftercare, which he loves. He gets grumpy when I pick him up early. I love that this time helps him burn some energy out and everyone that works there is so sweet. I love all the activities they have throughout the year that make it feel like a community building atmosphere--even beyond the school community. The Halloween Carnival is such a blessing to all Corpus families and it is fun to be a part of that. I also love that this school is small but mighty. I feel like the curriculum is more challenging than public school but it can be since class sizes are smaller and they are more capable of working with your student on an individual level. I am a supporter of public schools, but I think it is so important to start them out with a solid foundation and St. Pats is definitely that. I really don't have anything negative to say about it, its been a huge blessing to my family and I wanted to share in case anyone else is struggling to find something that fits the needs of their child.Parent Review1y ago
