Read what parents are saying about Johnson Elementary SchoolThis was such a good school for our son. He was a first grader here and his teachers were AMAZING! The principal is also UNBELIEVABLE! Best principal ever I believe. She was so welcoming and warm and so happy to have us "join the family". I would recommend going to this school if you get the chance! I can't say enough good things about this school. The only "weird" thing is they have open concept classrooms. I thought it was not a good idea but my son never complained about it.
Posted by a parent on 3/8/2013I could not ask for better teachers for my daughter. They are caring and go way above and beyond their required duties. I always feel welcome in the school and that there is a partnership between the teachers, parents, and students. The atmosphere in Johnson Elementary is truly unique and full of smiles and loving hearts!
Posted by a parent on 8/15/2011I couldn't ask for a better school for my daughter. The teachers are amazing, and go above and beyond each and every day to make sure all students succeed. The principal is accessible to parents, and is very much involved in the school's success. No wonder, they have received as many awards as they have...it is an honor to be a Jaguar Parent!

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI witnessed the Special Education teacher stomp and scream at my 5-year-old in the morning carpool line for speed walking on a sidewalk, prompting him to shutter in shock. Even the teachers around her looked in disbelief. When I made eye contact through my vehicle (we aren't allowed to exit), she rolled her eyes at me. I helplessly watched as my child hung his head and shuffled his feet through the doorway. I parked and entered the office. The principal told me she didn't have time to talk to me because she needed "to pull like 11 kids" to help with last minute tutoring. She called me hours later to inform me that she reviewed video (with no audio) and found no evidence that the teacher had screamed, and only "pivoted abruptly toward" my child... -_-... but then said that if a child is behaving in an unsafe manner (speed walking?) that any staff member is justified in screaming at them and using other means to stop that behavior. Aside from that gem, I've had a problem with bullying. Just make sure your children don't have unusual hair styles or wear the same-colored pants two days in a row, or they'll be the laughingstock of the school. Better yet, don't let your 5-year-old son have shoulder-length hair or he'll have 10-year-olds asking him what his genitals look like. On to academics! My children (K and 2) have had consistently dropping test scores. When I asked one of their teachers how to help them close the gap and mend their tattered confidence, she sent home Special Education paperwork and hasn't responded to me. I don't blame her for being overwhelmed and giving up on my child, as I've seen the utter chaos in the classroom. But my children were actually top of their classes at their previous school, which was rated 8/10. We only moved here because I'm in graduate school, and I feel so guilty. If you want your child to be safe from bullies (students and staff) and actually learn how to pass tests without last minute cheap tricks, don't send them here. I'm taking out loans to move out of district and save my children. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. It'll take years for them to heal and get back to where they were before coming here.Parent Review1y ago - Henderson Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAlthough my review has been reported several times coincidentally (on multiple platforms), I want to make parents aware that the administration (in our situation) allowed a child, in a program that the school profits off of, to bully my daughter with no consequences. We have been met with a lot of “brushing under the rug” when it came to speaking out about our situation. Beware.Parent Review11mo ago - Sam Houston Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIt's my son's first year of school 2021 the school assistant principal would only come up to me when I would come early to pick up my child who needs assistance walking to the car his not aware of danger all kids get dismissed when the bell rings she gave me a warning not to come early it didn't make sense but it's the rules. Not even 1 week later we get a notice that they are switching my child to another school they weren't very understanding it was just totally random decision they made. My child was perfectly fine here he loves his teachers it takes a while for kids with autism to get adjusted they weren't very understanding of that they just wanted us to go. The teachers are nice the staff I interacted with while picking up my child were nice. The only thing that is worrisome is the pickup line and rules they shouldn't dismiss all the kids outside when the bell rings not everyone is the same but accidents can happen the school is right next to the freeway/feeder you would think it would be common sense bc not all teachers are strong enough to hold onto kids who are runners or try wandering off.Parent Review2y ago - Mitchell Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is not what it used to be. Yes, the campus is still beautiful but that is about it. They have been without a permanent head master for 2 years. This has greatly reflected the work of the staff and administrators. The saying "while the cat is away the mice will play" is all too true in this situation. They accept children who have special needs but they have no support for those children and the teachers do not appear to hold any special credidentials to educate them properly. This creates havoc across the board. The teachers suffer, the typical students suffer from the constant class interruptions and the students who need extra help are not getting what they need to thrive. If your child is gifted or maybe a little extra they will not be challenged or pushed further. When we first came to Allen with our daughter another parent warned me that the teachers would not push my child to do more and she would need to be extremely self motivated in order to succeed. I took this advice with a grain of salt. Now I see what they mean. The past 3 schools our child attended she was tested as above average in academics but we fear that will fade from her while attending Allen Academy. When we have complaints it never goes any higher than the head of lower school. This would be the equivalent of a VP at a public school. Usually the problem is not resolved. We are basically told too bad, do it this way or we usually get fluff responses telling us how great they are or responses assuming we don't know the process. Feedback and corrective criticism is always recieved hostility. It has become apparent that Allen Academy is only interested in keeping enrollment up not the quality of education up. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because they are great about bullying. No bullying happens at Allen, that may be a product of the caliber of children whom attend but I do think staff are very attentive to this subject. In the end the old reviews are just that. Old and out dated data no longer relevant to the current climate of Allen Academy.Parent Review2y ago
