Read what parents are saying about Bellaire High SchoolI truly love my school and everything about it but here's the problem. HOUSTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT. I hate that a great school like Bellaire is stuck under the ownership of HISD. I hate what HISD is doing, I hate everything that came with the TEA take over.
Posted by a student on 7/28/2023We have had a great experience at Bellaire High School after being in private school through 8th grade. Our child is being challenged academically and is learning to navigate a large diverse school which we feel is a great benefit before college. In addition, she is gaining so much real world knowledge from attending school with students from backgrounds different from her own. Finally, we have found the size of the school to be an advantage in eliminating much of the cliques, drama and entitlement attitude that is often present in a smaller school. Kids at Bellaire work hard on academics and are busy with activities, leaving little time for social drama or worrying about brand names. In addition, Bellaire offers so many opportunities, from a large selection of advanced classes, 12+ foreign languages, over 100 clubs, trips, volunteer opportunities, sports, amazing music programs, a phenomenal art program and more.

Posted by a parent on 10/12/2017Bellaire High students are the most academically successful school in the largest ISD in Texas (Houston ISD) and is a testament to the failure of the public system. Marked by high teacher turnover, heavy police presence in hallways and racially driven student-on-student violence and facilities which can not pass safety inspections; Bellaire High is the poster child of public school failures. Three levels of academic curriculum where only the top level (AP/pre-AP) is delivers average performance on SAT/AP national testing. Standard level curriculum (lowest level) teachers are newly degreed from community colleges and other colleges with low academic entrance requirements show videos during class where as much as 50% of students are Spanish speaking only (and the teacher only speaks english). If you fail a test at Bellaire, you have the opportunity to retake the test twice. So every test is given 3 times to get the required number of students passing so the school reach graduation requirements.

Condit has caring teachers and a very engaged and wonderful principal. We have been so happy there and will miss it greatly!Parent Review1y ago - Herod Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is just okay. The student population is diverse and that's what I absolutely love about Herod. On the other hand, communication from the school leadership has been non existent .The previous principal named Ms .Colion wasn't great, but she did communicate via phone, in person or email. She was also present before and after school. She assisted with student arrival & dismissal. She made herself available to parents eventhough she wasn't always 100% truthful. The new principle Ms Berry, doesn't communicate at all with me. Its been weeks and she hasn't responded to my emails . Also the school doesn't open on time. School is suppose to open at 7am. How can they ask students to be on time, but the staff isn't on time to open the doors for all of the students waiting outside. In my opinion the school has not been the same since Mr. Paulus left. He was always available to respond to concerns and needs of parents.I feel they rushed to get a new principle instead of taking their time to find a great principle that the school deserve.Parent Review2y ago - Horn Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe used to love this school but the culture has drastically changed for the worse. Many teachers and both principals are extremely unkind and harsh with the kiddos, with admin not seeming to care since they have been at the school so long. We along with other parents constantly hear stories from our kids and their friends about extremely unkind behavior coming from the staff...so much that we question why we pay for private school when the staff does not seem to show or even care about leading by example with Christ-like character. There's also been so much student turnover as well as teacher turnover since we've been here. It's almost like many of the staff lost "why" they even decided to work at a Christian school - it's been very disheartening considering our children love their friends. Now we are looking elsewhere for a school that truly shows God's love, humility and grace to the students. We should have researched further as Veritas has never been recommended in parent groups and wasn't even recommended when we initially enrolled. Definitely do not recommend this place when talking to other families.Parent Review1y ago - Bellaire Marion Prep Academy
