Northeast Early College High School

My experience with most of the teachers and students has been positive. There are a lot of low income kids attending the school. So sometimes their situations are tough. But from what I can see the school does well for the situation they have. I also think it is very positive that they offer bilingual Spanish/English education. The only complaint I have is that the librarian is not a welcoming person. Maybe it would be better to hire someone who is more positive. But other than that I think the school has a lot of things to be proud of!

The teachers and staff at this school work very hard to make learning interesting and fun for the students. Every teacher I have encountered at Wooten has a passion for teaching young children. The school still does tend to put too much emphasis on the state tests--as most schools do. My children love this school!

A School where my Son was punched, lip cut with scissors by another classmate, bullied every day! HORRIBLE school! Was convenient and close to my work but not worth a bit. He loved to go to pre-school and this school was his nightmare. Substitutes could careless about what was going on with the class. Oh! and his paperwork was some how missing?? Done! So thankful his transfer to a very good school was approved to start immediately, we left this school before the end of last school year. I would NOT recommend this school AT ALL.

My daughter didn't speak a word of Spanish before going to kindergarten here. Although I've been learning Spanish off and on for ~6 years, after only 4 months her Spanish was much better than mine. When we speak Spanish to each other (which is super fun because mom & little brother have no idea what we're saying), she's constantly correcting my pronunciations. This school is a serious commitment - my daughter gets on the bus at 6:30am and comes home at 5pm (They do feed her breakfast and lunch). But that hard work pays off. She's still in kindergarten, but reading and writing (in both English and Spanish) really well. She can count to 100, count by 2s, 5s, 10s (in both languages). They give her homework every night, above and beyond the long school day. I'm super impressed with this school. I think part of the reason why her Spanish is so good is because about half of her class is native Spanish speakers. For her, recesses is in Spanish too :-).

Ascent has been an amazing experience for our child and us as a family. The campus and the experience as a whole is built around creating an amazing learning community during the school day and beyond. I have appreciated the thoughtfulness of staff members who know my child individually and care how things are going for them.
