Read what parents are saying about G W Harby J High SchoolTeachers are very personable and on spot with the students. The years my son has attended, I have never been disappointed.
Posted by a community member on 4/5/2017When my son started their in 6th grade he was bullied continuously and the counselor minimized it said "that it's not considered bullying unless it's repetitive" So the kids who beat him up got a way with it since it only happened once. Now my son doesn't tell anyone when kids push him around because it won't do any good. Now he's in 7th grade and is being bullied by a girl who is so full of hate she wrote an essay about how much she HATES my son in her Pre-AP English class and was complimented by the teacher on how awesome her essay was after all the students were allowed to read and take pictures of the essay. Now the essay is being circulated around the school and everyone is teasing him about it. I HATE HARBY AND THE ADMINISTRATION IS COMPLETELY CARELESS ABOUT THEIR STUDENTS.
Posted by a parent on 11/29/2016My eldest child attends Harby. My child is in the Pre-AP program and is doing very well. He is challenged by the curriculum, and his teachers are attentive to his needs and to my concerns. The current principal is an exceptional leader and role model for the students. She obviously cares a great deal about her students, and the kids respond to her. I am very happy with the education my child is receiving at Harby. He has had a wonderful junior-high experience and actually looks forward to going to school. The extracurricular activities are also varied and provide him with many fun, educational experiences. For any parent reading these reviews and who are concerned with those reviews that mention bullying as a problem, please realize that those reviews were written when Harby had a different principal and different leadership. The current administration is wonderful!
Posted by a parent on 6/24/2013My daughter is attending here as well. We moved here from out if state and she has been bullied since her second day. The teachers don't remove her they turn a blind eye and pretend they don't see it or hear it. Not sure what is worse :(
Posted by a parent on 3/19/2012My son went here for 6th and 7th grade. He was also bullied by students and two teachers. Like a pp said, he was isolated and blamed for being bullied. He transferred to another Alvin school for 8th grade and was much more successful. AISD needs to clean house at Harby and hire teachers and staff that care about their students.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAlvin High School is not safe. It values the reputation of it employees over the safety, health, and well being of its students, especially if they are female. Please reconsider sending your children to this school. They will lie, shame, and blame you if something happens to your child on their campus. As a former student I can tell you first hand that this is NOT a place you want to send your children.Other Review1y ago - Longfellow Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI had 2 children go to this school and the last year they attended was the worst. The teachers at recess do not watch your children at all but sit in a group and gossip. Their only attention is on each other. Both of my children got hurt with head injuries at recess (different times of the year). No teacher or adult saw what happened each time of course. The 1st grader's teacher would not let him see the nurse after his injury, saying he just went to the bathroom 10 minutes ago and must go to class instead.Later in the school year, the principle Dee Dee Baker, punished my 1st grader by having him clean 5 toilets under the janitor's supervision. He said the janitor wasn't mean or anything, she just made him clean the inside bowls and into the bottom where the pipes connect. He moped the floor following the toilets. We took that incident to the superintendent, where nothing happened but an apology from the principle. Following the apology she told us that she would punish any child again by having them clean toilets.Maybe I am too guarded as a parent, but I don't remember using chemicals and cleaning toilets until I was at least 12 years old. Just my opinion.Parent Review8y ago - Mark Twain Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school goes above and beyond for struggling students, providing multiple interventions in general education in subject areas they are having difficulty with. They offer incentives to the students to participate in imagine learning and the teachers are great at communicating and being supportive.Parent Review2y ago - Melba Passmore Elementary School
