West Middle School

My child did not like this school and when I asked him why. He told me that the teacher was nicer to the more wealthy kids. Such as the ones whose parents had higher paying jobs and nicer houses. He also said that he was being ruthlessly bullied by a group of kids who picked on the weaker students but he was to afraid to tell

West is a phenomenal school. I pay tuition for my daughter to go here and I am very impressed with the education she is getting. The teachers are fantastic and really care and want the kids to succeed. The only problem we have had is with some bullying. As is always the case in middle school kids are cruel and there will always be parents who do not teach their kids how to act. But I am not sending my daughter to socialize I'm sending her to school to learn and that she is doing well. The teachers and administration listen and step in when needed. Overall the last three years have been a great experience and I know my daughter is prepared to move on to highschool this fall.

West Middle School is nothing to write home about. Early in the school year the 6th graders are classified. This is like picking winners and losers. Essentially they cull out the students that most of the teachers don't want to fool with. They go into one group and the winners, mostly determined by your address, go into another group. It isn't racial segregation, it economic. It reminds one of a the caste systems of the old world. If daddy is rat catcher, then little Jimmy can be too. This town needs service employees to stock all the shelves and wait table and this educational system is there to make sure they have plenty. The winning kids that get into the good group will go to college and leave Tullahoma to never return, as there is nothing here for them. If you enroll in a child into West Middle School make sure your house is worth $200,000 because the teachers will check the address you put down in order to make their choices.
