Madisonville Middle School

The students mindlessly bully each other. The teachers don't even pay attention to what's going on in their classroom. Mrs.Barbra assigns too much work and expects it to be completed too soon. Mrs.Yates is too strict and assigns too much work to be completed and kept up with throughout the year.

The front office is rude, and teachers won't teach. The teachers do NOT put up daily assignments till days later. Make up work ends up "missing" which becomes a 0. If a child takes a little longer to understand the subject, the teacher sits at their desk and tells them to go sit down instead of teaching and actually try to help that child. If they are a little slower at understanding the teacher acts like the are being a nuisance to them cause they actually have to teach. You don't know how many times my kid has come home and told me the teacher don't like her because she doesn't understand. Now the staff will ignore you, you can sit outside and hit the buzzer and they will walk by look at you several times and just keep going instead of buzzing you in. Pretty much the same after you get in, I was in there waiting on her while she was doing nothing, and another gentleman came in and she jumped up and asked him what he needed, just because he was in a suit. He wasn't even that important. The principal is never there, and you cannot get any info when you do call.. nobody knows nothing.. I have never not got any notice of parent/teacher conf. The nurse is a whole other story.

My daughter loves this school and I appreciate the efforts that her teachers put forth to her education. The online daily grading updates are a wonderful tool. But, I have an issue with the front office staff. I've signed her out twice and I wasn't asked for identification or for my name. The first time this occurred I spoke with the Assistant Principal and he said " I'm shocked and I assure you it won't happen again!" Well, less than a week later I signed her out and again nobody asked me for my name or identification. I asked to speak with the Principal but she " left for the day" at 11a.m. I've called to set up a meeting and have yet to receive a time. If, you have a child that attends MMS please let their staff know this is a VERY important issue that the staff needs to address. Even though my daughter would never leave with a stranger it's the fact that apparently anyone can walk into the school and sign a child out with no questions asked. God forbid someone tries to withdraw my child or one of your own. So, please just because this is a small town doesn't mean there isn't the possibility that something like this wouldn't happen.

Overall this is a pretty good school.I do feel,however,that some of the teachers should spend a little more time actually teaching the kids how to do assignments instead of just handing them out and letting them figure it out on their own.Middle school is a lot harder than Intermediate school,and if the kids aren't being taught correctly how to do assignments then they aren't actually learning all they need to know.They also have way too much homework in 6th grade Math,and sometimes don't understand it at all because they weren't taught how to do it.Isn't that the teacher's job,to teach??
