Read what parents are saying about Hardin Valley Elementary SchoolI bought a house in this district in 2016 because I wanted my kids to attend a good school. At the time there was a lot of hype around the school. By the time my children were attending the school it was overcrowded. This led to an extreme drop in quality. My child's third grade class was a blend of two classes with somewhere around 40 kids in one room. So of course there is no time for individual attention. My child's grades and behavior suffered as a result. We decided enough was enough. The dream that was Hardin Valley had passed already. We moved to a nearly unknown district where my children now get the attention they need. So my recommendation is don't believe the hype.
Posted by a parent on 10/23/2023My sons have been going to Hardin Valley Elementary School for two years (after transferring from another elementary school in Knox County). We could not be happier with the school, teachers, and staff!! While, previous reviewers are correct that the school has a large amount of students (compared to some others in the area), but the teachers and staff have made the best of it by making inside classrooms and the portable classrooms (AKA: Learning Cottages) outside inviting and comfortable for students. Every teacher at HVES that we have met is so sweet, caring, patient, and has had wonderful communication with parents. You can tell they all really care about their students and love teaching. The school provides so many fun opportunities for kids to learn and have fun with things such as: STEM classes, Technology classes, a school garden, and extracurricular classes and activities. Each grade level gets to go on field trips twice a year and parents are able to chaperone. Also, teachers ask for parent class volunteers to help with class parties and other things they may need. Plus, PTO offers tons of opportunities for parents to volunteer to help out in different ways. My kids love this school and the friends they have made there.
Posted by a parent on 8/19/2022The eleven first grade classrooms were filled to max with no teacher assistants. Parental participation was extremely controlled and limited (covid and physical space limitations). There were no opportunities for casual classroom observation or interactions with the faculty. Pertinent bits of information were often missed. Given the heavy teaching load, any attempts to individualize the learning plan to the student's needs existed in theory only. There are constant fund raising efforts which can be budget breakers. ("If every body buys a book, the classroom gets a free book", etc, etc.). The attempts at raising "Hawk Spirit" are somewhat successful, but are overly focused on football and cheer leading. I hope we can manage an alternative next year.
Posted by a parent on 5/25/2022Three of my children attended this school. Administration and staff has always been welcoming and accommodating to students and parents. Due to the rapid growth in the area and COVID, circumstances have been tough for everyone. But the school has went above and beyond in trying to navigate these unfortunate circumstances.
Posted by a parent on 5/25/2022Welcoming new second graders to this school in unsafe and un-weatherized, prison looking tiny portables due to extreme over crowding and a principal who dismissed any concerns I had to tell me my kids were lucky to go to school. No we didn’t choose this area for education as a primary focus to be treated like this. Shame on allowing a community to be so over populated, and shame on local officials who haven’t declared the overwhelming necessity and broken ground on additional schools for this area. Realtors, do your due diligence and let new homebuyers know this travesty! Over 1300 kids K-5, 11 2nd grade classes, leaving second graders in portable classrooms. Needless to say, my kids will not be going here, expressing my dissatisfaction is near impossible and we are now having to pay for private school. This school and the principal that showed no care or compassion are the worst I could have ever imagined. Shame on all who allowed this over crowding and poor leadership with no concern for the best interests of young students. Avoid Hardin Valley and its severe over crowding at all costs!

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageESK is hands-down one of the greatest finds in Knoxville. My child has had a great experience here and has grown so much confidence in her abilities as a student and just as a person in general over the last 3 years. She started off extremely shy and was afraid she wouldn't be able to make friends, but soon found that everyone is of value, including herself. She is constantly academically challenged and I love that she's in an environment where all backgrounds are included (religious and otherwise). Additionally, there campus security is top notch, which is extremely important to us this day in age. As a parent, I couldn't feel more comfortable having this staff nurture my child and I feel so involved as a parent. It's a big community feel where family engagement is encouraged. Overall, my husband, my child, and I couldn't be happier.Parent Review7mo ago - Paideia Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI graduated from Paideia a few years ago. I attended from fourth grade to graduation, and my feelings about this school are mixed. I love learning, reading, writing, rhetoric, logic, and the humanities. The classical way of teaching is fantastic, and I recommend all parents send their children to classical schools because it provides a well-rounded education and confidence in one's ability to analyze and think critically. I have found myself head and shoulders ahead of others when it comes to college readiness. However, I do not recommend that Paideia Academy of Knoxville be that classical school. Teachers become overly emotionally involved in the student's lives, which, in my experience, lead to favoritism and general discomfort in the student body. Women are not allowed on the board of this school. I'm no feminist, but a mom's understanding of children is necessary for a school's administration. I was also told by the college guidance counselor that I could not attend a public university and maintain a strong Christian faith. I have found the opposite to be true, but I still receive judgment from the Paideia faculty about my college choice. Lastly, the majority of teachers and I believe all of the board lack any kind of degree in education, child development, child psychology, etc. This may not be entirely true for the lower school, but it was very clear to me in middle in high school that the math and science teachers did not know how to help people learn, rather they regurgitated information. In short, do send your children to classical school! It's great! Don't send your children to Paideia Academy.Other Review9mo ago - Knoxville Christian School
