The teachers are great and supportive! They love kids first and make sure they are cared for the second they come in the door. They push students of all levels to be their best both behaviorally and academically. No school is perfect but I think most of the issues are issues at every elementary school in the state. The teachers truly love their job and what they do and I can see the growth in my student!

Our daughter has anxiety and attends this school. Some of the teachers are down right rude in understanding her situation(s). Her reading teacher is the worst. Her reading teacher is always assuming things, that aren't true of situation. Our daughter tries to explain but her reading teacher scolds her instead of taking an understanding of her as a student with anxiety. Our daughter is required to carry a water bottle to school every day, another student accidently took a drink from my daughter's water bottle and they expected our daughter to be fully responsible of the incident instead of the other student taking some responsibility in the mistake. It see.s like this school doesn't care about the emotional and mental well being of the students at all. The only thing that they seem to care about is discipline. They push responsibility in their motto, but apparently expect more out of some students than others, they don't teach responsibility equally for all students. Our daughter stated that there's always 4 teachers with them at recess, but for some reason they can't see a shoving/fighting match between 2 students during recess. My daughter went to the Nurses office because she had a tonsil stone. No calls from staff, teachers, or the nurse notifying us of the problem. We had to wait until our daughter got off the school bus that evening to know that she was even sent to the nurses office. Complete lack of communication between parents and staff. If I had a choice to give this 0 stars I would.

Started here with a kindergartener and received very little communication from teacher or administration. Fast forward to fifth grade and the problems are still the same -- little to no communication from teachers and staff. Teachers are more concerned with behavior and discipline than student progress, and social/emotional needs are never met. Administration is proud of their test scores, but only seem concerned with the "in-crowd" families and their experiences. This school has always felt very cliquey and disinterested in making new families feel welcome or understood. I will be glad when this year is over and we leave this school for good.

The school has many high achieving students and engaged parents. The administration is traditional in its orientation and doesn't push "alternative" anything on the students. There are some activist teachers but they're measured and understand that this school is focused on learning versus activism.

I'm leaving two stars because we did end up having 3/4 great teachers and the related arts teachers are amazing. With that said, we've observed Principal Duncan was not open to any parental feedback and is quite hostile towards parents with different opinions to the point they are afraid to speak up about anything. It's very important for leadership to be professional and approachable if concerns with my children ever were to arise. I did not have that security at MCE. When Principal Duncan was asked to stop segregating children by gender in the cafeteria, he stood behind his policy even though it was a Title IX violation and he was made to stop. He was condescending when a parent asked him to reconsider the policy and wrote a highly offensive and inflammatory blog insulting the intelligence of the parent who had expressed concerns. To this day Principal Duncan continues to write unprofessional blog posts from his "public school" perspective that reflect strong political biases. His latest blog echoed the indoctrination narrative teachers all over the country are being accused of based on a book about a black boy's experiences working through his emotions and finding peace and love for all people after a police shooting that was allowed to remain in another elementary school library. I question whether Principal Duncan is capable of being impartial and fair to all the students he serves regardless of his political opinions and ego. I would recommend avoiding MCE as long as Mr. Duncan is in leadership there because I do believe he is fit to lead a school.
