Read what parents are saying about Strath Haven Middle SchoolI believe the only reason that the school receives low improvement scores is because they did so well guaranteeing the students still received full, high quality curriculum education during the quarantine period, so they didn’t have far to go to get back to the top. Look at how advanced the scores are overall! I am extremely satisfied as a parent. The teachers work in teams and education is personalized to each student, despite being a large public school. The clubs and activities are awesome and the community is fabulous. There is little diversity. That is the only other low mark against it. Looking at this school’s number rating on great schools, one would never imagine how amazing it is. The ratings system needs improvement. Parents are aware and they do pay high taxes for their children to attend such excellent schools.
Posted by a parent on 2/11/2024The music program is excellent. Students are given many opportunities to sing, play instruments, or act in the school musical. There are also many clubs and sports to choose from. The teachers are excellent and help the students learn well. However, there is way too much homework. Each teacher should consider the fact that they are not the only teacher in the school, and their students are receiving homework from other teachers as well. One teacher may give only 30 minutes of homework, but it all adds up if every teacher gives homework. Also, lunch and recess are only around 15 minutes each. Understandably, the breaks would be cut short to allow more time for learning in class, but studies show that students learn better when they have had proper exercise and time to eat. In addition, just because this is a middle school does not mean it cannot have a playground. Many students would have more fun at recess if there was some sort of obstacle course to climb on. One more issue is the diversity of the students and teachers. There are a lot more white students and teachers than any other race. More students and teachers of different races should be welcomed into the school. This would make the school much more diverse. Also, there is only one counselor per grade. There should be multiple counselors for each grade so each student can receive ample attention. This would help improve the mental health of every student. Although there are many issues, this is a good school overall. I am happy to be a student at Strath Haven Middle School.
Posted by a student on 8/8/2022Strath Haven Middle School is an excellent school if you are looking for the best education for your child. I moved to the district from another local district. I am so happy I did. My daughter enjoys her school and she tells me how her teachers make learning so much fun. The resources they have here are the best and the staff is phenomenal. They work as a team to help your child. The high school also made Blue_Ribbon again this year. The Wallingford -Swarthmore District is amazing. -Happy Parent of a 6th grader
Posted by a parent on 1/24/2017Strath Haven Middle School might seem like a great place, but the number bullies is unbelievable. Eight out of 10 students are being harassed and bullied each day and it happens everywhere. The bullying happens in the halls, buses, cafeteria, recess, and even during class. Bullying consists of threats, assault, and cyber bullying. The faculty prevents bullying in a small way, but they don't have consequences to prevent further bullying. The faculty just gives the bully a detention usually, or a suspension. The school should teach kids how to respect each other and have a better system to prevent bullying. Strath Haven Middle School is a good place, don't get me wrong, but they should prevent the bullying more.
Posted by a student on 1/8/2016I had one daughter go through the Wallingford Swarthmmore School district and she is now a 2nd year college student. I also have a middle school-er. We have been generally pleased with the district and level of education as a whole. I feel that great school are a product of a great neighborhood and parents who are engaged in their child's learning. My second child is having a completely different time in SHMS than the first child. the new school building is wonderful but school renovations or lack there of had no bearing on the great education the kids received years ago, it is really great teachers and a wonderful community that makes great schools. So glad we live here and are a part of the WSSD community

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHaving my kids attend SRV was by far one of the greatest decisions my husband and I could have ever made. They take such great care to treat each child as an individual and encouraged them to be themselves. They are taught how to respect themselves and others and be leaders amongst their peers and in their communities. They receive, not only an amazing STEAM education, but also the life and social emotional skills needed to succeed in everyday life. Everyone knows everyone and the teachers and staff all genuinely care for each student and want to help them excel. My daughter wakes up each day excited to go to school and can’t wait to share all that she had learned each evening when she returns home. SRV is a great school that I whole heartedly recommend!Parent Review1y ago - Notre Dame De Lourdes School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have 3 kids currently at Notre Dame de Lourdes, and I have been thrilled with the school! The teachers are fantastic, they engage the students and you can tell they love their jobs. Both the teachers and students have adapted well to virtual learning when needed. My children are thriving with the smaller class sizes, since they are receiving more individualized attention. The school community is caring and welcoming, and really feels like a family. There are many extracurricular activities and opportunities for the kids to be involved. I feel confident that my kids will be prepared for high school and beyond. I am very happy with the school, and glad that I chose to send my kids to NDDL.Parent Review3y ago - Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur children are 8 and 10, and love Mother of Providence School. We briefly left due to moving to the area for the high caliber public school district. We returned to Mother of Providence after the children begged to go back. They love the school, teachers and their friends. Per neighbors, the academic expectations of the school exceed that of our local public school. Our children participate in music, sports, the school play, honors math and a supplemental science program. Counselors and reading support are available as needed.Parent Review2y ago - Kehillah Early Learning Center

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'll leave the review I wish I had read before choosing this daycare center. My husband and I chose Kehillah based on keystone stars, thinking that if a center had 4 keystone stars, it had to meet a specific standard of care that would worth paying more for. Our child spent 3 years at the center, and each year gave us more reason to consider leaving but by the time we began looking for a new daycare, the waiting lists were already full elsewhere. The infant rooms were pretty disorganized and all of the staff have since left. There were multiple occasions where we realized my child didn't have any liquids their entire day and at least once where the milk I brought in was still sitting in the fridge at the end of the day. The second cause for concern was a parent association meeting that was absolutely packed with over 30 parents voicing similarly alarming concerns. In the three years our child was at the center, there had been three different directors. In the older toddler room, we went through three lead teachers within the first few months of our time there. When we took our child out of the daycare for the most recent summer we came back to find that they had forgotten to hold a spot for us, which we paid a deposit for, and they placed our child with a completely different group of younger children. Instead of owning up to the mistake, the first response we were given was that this was intentional because our child needed to be developmentally reassessed. It later came to light through the director that there is no assessment given to any of the children to "move on"-- this was just an excuse given to cover a clerical error by another staff member. All that being said, there are teachers here who are genuinely great people and really seem to try to do what's best for the children. The facilities are amazing but at the end of the day, you have to trust the people who are watching your kid. It struck us that this was a top down problem with the organization as a whole.Parent Review6y ago - Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School
