Read what parents are saying about William Prescott #38This school picks and chooses the students it cares to like. My son was in 4th grade here and it seemed as though the only 2 fourth grade teachers were teaming up on him. Picking and choosing students (someone else I knew had the same problem also) The one teacher rambled to me on the phone, she became loud when I seemed puzzled because my son is a good boy. I told her we could have a meeting to see what this was really about. Here she was overreacting and her only possible complaint to the principle was my son was too quiet. Yes too quiet. Grades were great. She threw accreditations in my face and became more irritated when there was no reasoning behind her behavior. I pulled my son from the school. Be careful if your child is in the 4th grade here and pay attention if they become upset.
Posted by a community member on 9/5/2016I really thought my granddaughter was in a descent school and adjusting well to kindergarden, only to find out after her first week she is being moved to a school no where near their home because of too many children.... She only lives 2 blocks from the school and will have to be on a bus!!!! This is not right at all!!! Very disappointed in the Scranton School Distrist !!!!
Posted by a community member on 9/7/2012This is by far one of the best schools I have come across. The principal is an excellent leader.... supportive of his staff but clearly in charge. In the same manner he is very encouraging of the students. He greets each by name both coming and leaving the school each day. The teachers are very dedicated and willing to spend personal time( and sometimes money) to provide the students with what is necessary to learn. The school also has a superb PTA that funds field trips, holiday gifts, and other perks for the students' education. Test scores are fantastic, especially when compared with other schools with a similar demographic, you can see that for yourself. In all, this is a friendly neighborhood school with a strong emphasis on community and education. It is a rare example of a place where all the right elements have come together to provide the perfect environment for learning.
Posted by a parent on 3/25/2011Mr. O'donell the principal is involved in everyday routines and knows every child by name. The parents, pta, teachers and staff are all organized and work well together, We have organized fun family times and events. Best Elementary school around. My children enjoy going to school everyday and are excited to tell about what they did and learned when they come home.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere is a reason that these positive reviews are from many years ago and that there are so few. We ended up at John Adams after the boundary lines were redrawn in Scranton. We were unhappy from very early on. Many of the teachers act as if all of the families are poor and ignorant. There are no lines of communication between the school and home. The PTA is not very receptive to input. The PSSA scores are terrible, and while that may not always be a bad thing, in this case it is. The academics are subpar and the class sizes are large. The pre-school program excellent, the environment is clean. There is a character building model in place, but is poorly implemented.Parent Review9y ago - John G Whittier #2

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter was discriminated against because of her age and was lowered to second grade when she had passed it and was supposed to be a third grader. Plus nobody called to tell me I learned about when she arrived home crying. And she was supposed to have an ESL teacher witch she never got. I went to the district nothing was done still waiting for the superintendent to call me. I ended up withdrawing my daughter and moving the experience was horrible.Parent Review8y ago - Montessori Kindergarten

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth of my grandchildren attend Saint Mary’s of Mt Carmel and I cannot say enough good things about it! My grandson is/was having behavior issues and everyone goes on and beyond to help! This school is like a family! My grandchildren feel safe and loved ! To me, this is priceless ! They are always involved with projects, implement religion and keep the communication open! This is the best decision I made for them ! Highly recommend it ! Their classrooms are small enough for that one on one learning. The teachers and staff are great ! Always looking for the child’s best interest. Highly recommend ! Everyone that attends this school is blessed ! Thank you !! A+Parent Review4mo ago - Marian Catholic School
