Freire Charter School

Over the years, this school has undergone a significant decline. They now have an absurd incentive trip program that prioritizes attendance over all other factors. If a student has unexcused or excused absences, they are barred from participating in these trips. The school’s focus has shifted entirely from academics to attendance, disregarding the fact that their standardized test scores remain exceptionally low. The school’s mission has been completely transformed, now solely emphasizing attendance rather than rewarding students for their academic achievements.

Our child left FSS in lower school because we felt that the administration placed more emphasis on "talking" about diversity than on meaningfully implementing it, or anything else for that matter. In our experience, adherence to the school’s stated messaging seemed to take priority over the quality of teaching. The curriculum was disappointing at best.

I have watched our grandchildren thrive at the pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st-grade levels at The Philadelphia School. The teachers and staff that I have met are dedicated, professional, and very positive. I am a product of a parochial school education. I thought that my elementary education was very good. However, experiencing The Philadelphia School has given me a new understanding of academic excellence. And it is not just the academic environment - the entire school is affirming and enthusiastic. It's pervasive. The Head-of-School is also excellent.
