Elk Ridge School

Great school with many caring and wonderful teachers. Everyone my daughter has had to deal with has been top notch. A bonus of this school is that it is dedicated to only 1st and 2nd grade. The district is fortunate to have seperate buildings for K, 1-2 and 3-5.

ER is now 1st grade and half 2nd. (The other 2nd graders are at Nottingham which houses grades 2-4). My daughter attended 1st grade at ER last year and is now in 2nd grade at ER too. They allow requests (no guarantees though) for which school you want your 2nd grader to attend; They try to keep the siblings together to alleviate the parental transportation between schools for the car-riders. My daughter's 1st grade teacher was excellent. She enjoyed challenging her students and really stretching their little minds with sometimes too much homework. At first my husband and I were frustrated with the daily assignments (math and reading), followed by the weekly writing assignments!? However, we quickly realized how much our daughter was learning and by being exposed to science projects and frequent math tests (near the end), by the end of 1st grade she was fully prepared for 2nd grade. It does depend on which teacher you are assigned to though; Some mothers were not happy with their kids' 1st grade teachers because there was barely any math homework and no tests or projects. I guess we are lucky because so far, we love her 2nd grade teacher as well. She is pretty awesome.
