Maple Point Middle School

My two sons and daughter went through this school 5-8, the first year is very separated and introduces them slowly into middle school. After that they gain maturity and build great connections with their WIN teachers. -I love that part! The teachers are very engaged with students and parents and my kids even had a handshake with a few of them. The community there is great from what my sons and daughter tell me, lots of friends from different backgrounds.

Administration at this school is less then desirable. I have had two children go through this school so far. Bullying is awful and administration sweeps most things under the rug. My daughter was sexually harassed for months and when she finally brought it to my attention after bringing it to her teacher then guidance counselors attention I was met with the boys will be boys speech until I threaten hiring a lawyer. Years later my son was bullied so bad he stopped engaging in school it was not until I asked a teacher why his grades were falling so rapidly that they decided to tell me he was struggling with his peers. I was told by an assistant principal that they try to handle fights and bullying "internally" to keep suspension rates down. Teachers are teaching less and less as the years go. Turn around rate is insane! And why is no one questioning the magical disappearance of the school districts superintendent?

Teachers are very engaged with students. With the very rare exception, every one of the teachers that my children had at Maple Point were top notch. The one exception that I can think of, was removed. All of my children went on to graduate in the top 5-10% of their HS class, held leadership positions and eventually graduated from demanding healthcare programs at the University of Pittsburgh.

I had a small group of friends to help me get through it. All I can say is that I’m glad that I’m in high school now. I graduated from Maple Point in June of 2019.

Very old fashioned approach to education and the overall rating of the school reflects its lack of effectiveness.
