Read what parents are saying about Downingtown High School East CampusAs a graduate of the last graduation class with a senior ring that has DHS on it instead of DEHS or DWHS, they do an excellent job preparing their students for college. In my freshman English class at PSU my professor will highly satisfied with my writing skills as well as research skills to write an excellent paper again and again with little or no guidance. Downingtown has great teachers and a wide variety of classes to pick from. Not sure if they still offer unique English alternative classes but War and Peace Conflict English was by far the most engaging English class I have ever taken. It made me interested in writing and the teacher was so enthusiast it truly made learning fun. Not sure if he is still teaching but Mr. Appel with the best!!
Posted by a teacher on 1/18/2014Downingtown East High School does a great job preparing kids for college. I have two graduates who did and are doing excellent in college. I have a senior who is doing very well All did very very well on their SAT's and had no trouble getting into the college of their choice.
Posted by a parent on 7/8/2013Tough school district to say the least. Students here have grown up with one another and are very clicky. My daughter just completed her first year of high school here. We moved here from out west. She found it very difficult fitting in and making friends which was very disappointing since she was so looking forward to high school. Academics seemed to be very good but I believe you need an overall well-balanced environment to have a successful school. Not sure how the administration can make it any better. Just be aware it may be a rough transition for your child if you aren't from around these parts.
Posted by a parent on 6/10/2013This school was a life-saver for my son. I transferred him over from a failing school district when we moved to the area. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! His behavior changed tremendously. I noticed a huge difference in the teachers/staff at this school. They truly took an interest in my son and his academic (and social-emotional) well-being! This is a great school!
Posted by a parent on 4/23/2013As a 2011 graduate attending one of the top schools in the nation, I am appalled by the way parents perceive the school. The opportunities are there for students if they choose to accept them and the major issues at this school of 2,000 have been created by less than 20 students. If a student wishes to apply themselves and succeed, the school will help them do it. More students believe it's more important to have the most recent gossip than understand the most recent world events. The sad truth is that it is the parents who make most students at East who they are by not taking active roles in their lives and not giving a damn what their kids do and would rather entertain MTV with their kids than CNN. Also, for the critics of the district not taking care of underachieving students, they clearly have not seen the great work being done for mentally challenged students. Another point to those who claim it is a school of entitlement, it is public school in a nice suburban area and you can choose to live another place but this truly is one of the best public schools you can find and the fact that kids leaving here annually attend as good or better schools than private school kids locally

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended SSPJ many years ago and felt more than adequately prepared for high school. The morals and scholastic habits instilled at this fine school have carried through my life to this day.I now have 2 children attending SSPJ and I am very happy with their education. The school cares so much about their students as whole persons. They nurture their souls as well as their minds. My children love going to school every day, which is truly a testament to the environment fostered within the walls of SSPJ. They are also achieving within the top 10% nationally on terra nova testing so their enjoyment at school goes hand in hand with effective education.I feel that SSPJ is worth the financial investment and the 20 minute commute for my children. We moved from one of the area’s very best school districts to a far less desirable district because of our confidence in the education at SSPJ.Parent Review6mo ago
