Read what parents are saying about Wycallis El SchoolMy son is highly capable and an excellent student, however his performance is deteriorating after he joined this school. No doubt the new principle is excellent, CANNOT say the same about teachers. 2 years wasted waiting to get a better teacher. Very disappointed. Might enroll my son in a private school this year.
Posted by a community member on 4/14/2016I can't figure out what school the other reviews refer to but it's not Wycallis. We moved just so our children could attend this school and it's the best decision we could have made. The principal it's so caring and concerned. He knows almost every student by name. I have never meet such dedicated teachers or a school with so much parent involvement. They have the highest academic standards but yet continue to make self esteem and fun their biggest priority. the principal tells all parents to call him directly if you have any concerns and he means it. This means a lot coming from me because my job requires me to travel to and work within most schools in this area. Wycallis recently received federal blue ribbon status. My daughter came home so proud and said the principal was running up and down the halls celebrating. If this doesn't convince you, check the data. I am proud to be a Wycallis parent!
Posted by a parent on 12/17/2013They got a new principal this year, so hopefully things will improve. The last principal only cared about what percentage of students met the minimum proficiency level (not to mention she was quite mean to both children and parents). My son is highly capable and was not given challenges, so his first grade year was a waste. My daughter loved her teacher and seemed to do well, though I was annoyed by all the shortcuts they learned because she doesn't actually understand concepts and underlying theories (this is not the teacher's fault, it is a curriculum issue). There is a huge lack of communication in the school. We are a week away from the first day of classes and we still have no idea who our teachers are or what the bus schedule is (there were so many problems with kids missing their bus rides home from school last year!) There is very little opportunity for parents to be involved in the school setting.
Posted by a parent on 9/6/2011DO NOT CHOOSE WYCALLIS ELEMENTARY FOR YOUR CHILD!!!!! CHOSE DALLAS ELEMENTARY INSTEAD. We moved to the Dallas Area two years ago. I enrolled my child here and it was the worst decision ever. This school is so focused on the PSSA testing they do not teach anything else. Everything is practice for the test. That is why they score so high. Maybe it is good to a point but how is that going to help them in the long run. The math ciriculum is a joke. It is called Everyday Mathematics. They no longer teach Math the way we learned as children. The funny thing is they do this in Elementary and when they get to Middle School they are to use the way we learned. So basically they learn these Math techniques for no reason. My child has been kept in for recess because he has not met his Accelerated Reader GOAL. So on top of the 4 reading periods a day, my child has to read at recess too. The faculty looks down upon you if you do not have an A+ student. My child is a A to B- student and they require my child to go to tutoring. I understand we need to set expectations for our children, however, how can I complain with grades like that. The prinipal is very rude and is no help at all

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI studied at the GOH from K-6. I am now at Wyoming Seminary in 11th grade. I was greatly dissatisfied with my education at GOH. From hypocritical teachers, to teachers who kick students or even hold them upside-down from their anckles, I never really felt safe around any of the faculty, especially with some teachers with high influence (I won't be more specific). I felt that each school year was a continuation of the previous year, rather than a year built upon previous knowledge with which to develop scholarly maturity. I think it was a great school for parents who can step back and hear teachers speak of the school's moral principles, but from a student's perspective with a strong understanding or faith, philosophy, psychology, and history, the school does a poor job doing what it claims to teach. It has faultered greatly at achiving its academic goals and I now feel like I was completely miseducated. I have been spending the last few years of my life learning that almost everything I learned was complete rubbish, like in second grade when a substitute teacher (who was actually a very influential person on the school) told us that 'w' is sometimes a vowel. I am now glad it closedOther Review11y ago - Building Blocks Learning Center
