Read what parents are saying about Rigler Elementary SchoolGreat community feel, with kids and teachers that have mutual respect for one another (which seems rare these days.)
Posted by a community member on 1/27/2024We have been part of the Rigler community for three years and we couldn't be happier with the experience we've had - both for our two children and for our family. Our oldest started kindergarten during the height of the pandemic (Sept. 2020), so needless to say, starting school was a challenge all around. But the teachers and staff are really incredible and made it a great experience for our child. The current administration is caring and engaging and have been strong advocates for the school and community at the district level. There is also a strong community at Rigler with both teachers and parents working hard to support one another and all the students. The bilingual educational model has been great for our kids and they love learning a second language and are excelling academically.
Posted by a parent on 8/24/2023My first child attended Rigler's Spanish Immersion Program from K-5 which was from 2016-2021. My youngest is now at Rigler in Kindergarten (Spanish Immersion) for the 2022-2023 school year. Over these seven years as a Rigler parent, I've only ever had concerns regarding one teacher and that teacher has since left the school. Nothing too harmful, just negative attitude, seemed distracted and short with the kids. I had heard that there were issues prior to 2016, but the principal who was assigned during our school years was AMAZING. There has been such great morale it seems and families support the faculty so well. My older child struggled behaviorally and Rigler counselor(s) and teachers were instrumental in getting her the help she needed and on the path to success. Academically, I wouldn't say there is anything extraordinary offered, but I've seen improvement in the support provided to students and families resulting in better academic outcomes. We are a Black family and we have not experienced any inappropriate treatment, even when faculty struggled with my older child's behavioral issues. Rigler's student population is primarily Hispanic, and your family (not just your child) will be immersed in many cultural experiences. That has been the best part about being a Rigler Family. Everyone knows my children and your experience will be based on how involved you are and your openness to learn and grow with your children. Some things might seem "inconvenient", like receiving communications in Spanish first. When we attend one of the many Rigler events, it just feels like being at a family function. I am so glad that my kids have had the opportunity to be a part of this community and continue to grow from these experiences.
Posted by a parent on 4/4/2023They are turning the course on a decade where there was much turnover and dissatisfaction. The staff and every adult cares deeply about the social-emotional and academic needs of each student.
Posted by a parent on 9/12/2019We have loved being apart of the Rigler community since 2016. I would highly recommend this school for anyone wanting a full cultural immersion and a foundation of respect and care for others.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageVernon is an amazing community. We love that it’s an IB school, and have been impressed by the ways in which each unit is incorporated in all they do. I’ve never been one to go by ratings alone, so before coming to Vernon we asked friends and neighbors about their experiences. We went to information meetings and social events before kindergarten, and were so impressed. We have never looked back, and feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of this school community. There are always ways in which we can do better. I appreciate the school’s desire to grow and change, to better serve all students. I appreciate the efforts to make decisions with equity at the forefront. Our children will be better human beings thanks to these formative years at Vernon. So very thankful.Parent Review3y ago - Montessori of Alameda

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTerrible experience. After my father passing away, I informed them my son wouldn't be there for a few days. They called and acted like I did not inform them. When I repeated that my dad had died and my son wouldn't be there, the response I got was "ok , so he'll be out all week?" The lack of compassion is disgusting. If children are late on popcorn days (children who can't drive and have no control over when they arrive at school) they are punished and refused popcorn.Parent Review2y ago - St. Rose School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy family has been at St. Rose for over 10 years now, and have loved our experience. Is it perfect? Certainly not. But we send our kids to school every day knowing they are safe and loved, and growing to be humans that are caring and compassionate for those around them. The teachers and staff are top notch, and the community is absolutely wonderful. Our new leadership at school this year has been nothing but positive, and I highly recommend you reach out to Anna Raineri to learn more if you are curious.Parent Review3mo ago - Trinity Lutheran Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe never believed we could afford private school. We entered every charter school lottery in town and got lucky. ....until Covid hit and we were faced with insurmountable challenges in providing any semblance of an education for our 1st grader. The coveted charter school was closed and barely functioning. Months went by. As working parents the situation felt completely chaotic. Enter Trinity, the principal was and is warm and welcoming in every interaction. The virtual learning was far more engaging and enriching the we could have ever imagined. Our daughter was glued to the class even via zoom. The school was able to safely, efficiently, and calmly (yes legally) incorporate in person learning sessions in small groups and now are entirely in person. They are on point and have quickly and efficiently risen to the occasion of educating during the pandemic again and again. And to my original point, they are the most affordable private school in town and we wouldn't dream of taking our daughter anywhere else. My gratitude and admiration for TLS grows daily. Currently, my daughter, now a second grader, is engaged, challenged, and happy as the pandemic wears on and all we hear out of public schools are extremes in behavior, discord, and malcontent. Meanwhile at Trinity the staff is unwavering in their dedication to the growth and success of each student. Individual progress is measured, yes. Their social and emotional needs are considered daily, yes. Most importantly I know that the door is always open to my questions and concerns. I continue to be impressed with the entire organizations willingness to innovate and pivot as our circumstances change, as they have many times, during this pandemic. Giving these kidos a sense of normalcy and community that we all crave. I have heard it said that a crisis like this reveals true colors: in the case of TLS the colors are everything you want in a school - stability, adaptability, dedication, and perseverance. It would be a great oversight to fail to describe the love and care that the teachers and staff bring to their jobs. It is the very essence of the school and acts as the glue that binds the stellar academics. Thank you TLS!Parent Review2y ago
