Garfield is more than just a school. It’s a supportive and vibrant community where children thrive and grow. I’m grateful my children attend such a wonderful school. We are not Spanish speaking family, but bilingual family. Kids are thriving and learning different culture and language. I think it is great if you willing to stick to the program at least 3 years. Kids caught up their grade level after 2/3 years in proficiency in Spanish. As a parent and volunteer, I’ve seen firsthand how the school values every student’s unique background and promotes a sense of belonging. The educators also genuinely caring individuals who build strong relationships with students and families. Garfield elementary has sense of community and kids feel belong there. I recommend this school

Kathryn Jones Harrison is a great school with an amazing community. Every adult in the school is engaged with the kids, and builds a strong community of learners. Every student is cared for, and communication is open. There's very little use of screens and no homework. Teachers seem to care about evidence based educational methods. Ratios of adults to students in the classroom is always excellent. I couldn't have asked for a better public school for my child. My only significant complaints are at the district level, which can't be held against any particular school.

I have one boy in Mt View right now, and his older brother also attended this school. Both of my kids are autistic, although on the outside they seem to be “normal.” This disparity has caused some issues for my boys through their lives, with adults who don’t know them becoming frustrated by certain behaviors that they don’t expect from kids this age - because again, they don’t “look” or “act” autistic. Mt View has been nothing short of wonderful with my kids. My youngest has severe ADHD as well, and they were proactive about putting together a plan to best support him in class so he can focus and learn and feel good about the work he’s done at the end of the day. There have been some bullying issues over the years, but I feel the school was responsive and, importantly, already aware and taking steps to rectify the situation.They are huge on family involvement. Myself, my mother, and my grandmother have all volunteered at school, during school hours. It’s pretty cool to get to sit in your son’s class for an hour and work on math with him and his friends.I feel they also do a decent job at providing a well rounded education. They have chickens and a garden, PE, art, and music. My oldest son is into some pretty creepy stuff - he’s a horror buff and a budding artist. I appreciated that when he had art assignments and would draw or sculpt something that was honestly kind of terrifying (but not inappropriate or violent. He makes characters for horror games.) the school never made him feel any type of way for his unique interest and was always just really supportive of everything he wanted to do and make. The kid is a great artist and an even greater sculptor and I really think Mt View deserves some credit for always encouraging kids to work hard and do what makes them happy.
