Read what parents are saying about Almor West Elementary SchoolAlmore West has a wonderful new principal who is known as one of the best principals in Lawton. Lots of great teachers are this school who truly love their students and take pride in seeing them grow and learn.
Posted by a community member on 8/23/2018Almor West does an outstanding job by being friendly-the principal & secretarial staff, amongst teacher & support staff. All three of my children have attended and we have experienced some wonderful memories. Memories, that have propelled each of them to do well all around. Thank you Almor West! "GO STARS!"
Posted by a parent on 2/18/2016It's a great school! The teachers take pride in their students. They show up at extra activities and display students' work in the hallway. The secretaries are polite, friendly, and helpful with any request with things like how many times has my child been absent. Teachers respond quickly to emails and have given me great websites to help my child be more successful.
Posted by a community member on 1/20/2016My children have all attended Almor West during the last 10 years. I absolutely love all the teachers and the staff is wonderful. They are always helpful! Parent involvement is always a key to your child's success because the teacher cannot do it alone.
Posted by a parent on 4/17/2015I currently have a child that attends Almor West. I am extremely happy with this school. The teachers and principals work had with the students AND parents. Working in the school system, I understand how chaotic things can get, especially in a school. You have phone's ringing constantly, bells to the front door ringing constantly, students needing medication, there is ALWAYS something going on in the front. Teachers have 20 something odd students in their class. They are trying their best to accommodate all those children (whom are on different learning levels) and discipline issues. Parents also need to know that there are meetings principals and counselors are required to go to. They won't always be in the building when you feel it is convenient for YOU. You can't please 350 students parents. But they try! And I think they do a VERY GOOD JOB!!! To get new things for school, you have fundraisers. The school isn't requiring you to do so, but whatever you can do to help raise money for the school will eventually help your child. Stop complaining about ways to better your child's education. I AM VERY PROUD OF ALMOR WEST AND ALL THEY DO!!!

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWonderful school! Administration and teachers truly understand the importance of making school a fun environment for students to learn so they love coming to school. At the younger levels play is so important to learning academically and socially. So much pressure is put on schools to remove play but the staff here does a wonderful job balancing play and academics so that students learn through play. They get to enjoy the social skills and exercise gained during recess time, lunch and music and PE class. The secretaries are friendly and always helpful. We love Crosby Park.Parent Review5y ago - Edison Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is our 2nd year here and I literally HATE this school. I get anxiety around my kids going to this school. Dismissal is a nightmare. They call on favorites and the rest get to go last. Standing right in front of the teacher dismissing and she will literally avoid asking you. Dismissal time is not even that anymore, it's 5 minutes later because of the "new dismissal". We're getting the consequences for some parents that thought they could take random kids home, from what I was told. I have been to MANY different schools in my life (bare minimum 13). ALL OF THEM are/were way more advanced than these and that was in the 2000s. This school is just horrible. If you can send your children somewhere else, do that. They do not have very much for children to do such as sports. The others that go here are mostly locals (a few from military). The locals are just that, lawtonians. The community is small. The trash around this small city is way worse than most other larger cities. The amount you pay in taxes, both local and state, and the monopolies the utility companies have, makes the cost of living here the same or more than other cities, but the pay is way lower unless you work at Goodyear or the military. They are constantly increasing the water bills and taxes in the city because they can. The people outside of Lawton have to shop in Lawton too. I would suggest driving to Wichita Falls, TX to shop. You pay way less in taxes. Id honestly suggest living in Texas if you can. You can't drive in Lawton without seeing trash, homeless, and cars that are duck-taped or tied together with straps. Stuff to do in lawton? Lol, movie theater, chuck e cheese, the great plains museum, and parks. The best thing here is the mountains and medicine park. My kids HATE this school. They BEG me to not have to go. Then the hospitals here suck! My son had an issue that was time sensitive and SWM didn't have an ultrasound tech and CCMH REFUSED his care. They said the earliest flight to OU Med would take a min. of hours to get to him and no ambulance that could take him! I deff didn't mind taking him myself and thankfully turned out to be nothing but God forbid that happens to someone that truly needs those services promptly because it could turn very bad. The dr in ER even said "this is unacceptable and I can't beleive I am saying this".Parent Review1y ago - Ridgecrest Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy cousin has been coming home every day and we would ask her how her day was and she would say that it was horrible and she says that it’s because this girl in her class bully’s her. (They are in kindergarten by the way)She says that the girl tells her “look over there” and then scribbles all over her paper. My cousin tells us other stuff too. I just hate the fact that’s she’s getting bullied in kindergartenParent Review2y ago - Woodland Hills Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy children at the school have been treated poorly. I would justify it, thinking the whole COVID-19 was why the school was disorganized. However, the office ladies are rude, and I’m a parent who I know never gave them any trouble; nonetheless, they don't want family engagement.First, when no family engagement is allowed, that throws me off. What are you hiding? Perhaps the way you treat the kids.My complaint is not towards the teachers. My children had mostly great teachers. It’s for the office staff. They seem bitter and impatient.I give a three-star review because I have worked at a different elementary school, because it’s a low-income area, things are not as expected, but a lot has to do with the top.Public schools in Oklahoma are the worst.Parent Review4mo ago - Hugh Bish Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe Principal needs to update the parents about where the child is being moved to from classroom to classroom. The special education IEP program for my son and daughter is definitely not being met but just skating by. They need more resources and classrooms for teachers an atmosphere and environment that’s great for kids to learn things not a place that looks like a prison cell. I had high hopes transferring my kids over to this school but instead it’s just disappointment and depression. Let’s do better for our future leaders of America not whatever this is.Parent Review2mo ago
