Read what parents are saying about Elyria High SchoolThe Elyria City Schools offers a wide range of classes for general education as well as many Honors and AP options and dual enrollment classes. They have over 60 clubs that all students are welcome to join. Their band, drama, and other arts programs are second to none. They send children to the top universities in the country. There was a student a few years ago that was chosen to go to Sweden to work on the CERN Large Hadron Collider. He was one of only ten college students chosen throughout the country and he credits his Science teacher at Elyria High for sparking his interest in Physics. More than one student has come back to teach at Elyria High due to the influence of their teachers. There are an impressive number of students graduating with Top Honors and millions of dollars are awarded every year for scholarships. They have a 90% graduation rate which is practically unheard of in an urban district. If you want your child learning in a diverse environment with many opportunities and taught by an outstanding, highly qualified staff in a new state of the art building I would highly recommend Elyria High School.
Posted by a parent on 6/5/2016I attended this school for one year and immediately transferred out. It is a culture of mediocrity. Examples: A guidance counselor told me to "take the easy A" when I told them my math class was too easy and wanted to advance, halfway through the school year they brought in an "emergency" sub teach us 10th grade history since the teacher retired early and only showed us videos everyday (I had mentioned this to the counselor, they ignored me).
Posted by a student on 3/4/2014I honestly think that they need to treat their teachers better than what they do because they have so much potential and so much they can teach and share with our children who cares if it isn't an 'up to date' way of teaching in the principles book if the kids are learning and enjoying who cares??????

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school used to be absolutely amazing. There was a waiting list just to get into the school because they literally hit the building's maximum capacity. It's gone progressively downhill over the past several years. The leadership is all about getting more students through recognition and awards, meanwhile, they're neglecting the current problems that are causing students to leave. This school is better than the local public schools, so it's a great deal if you get the full ride through Lorain Schools. It's not worth the $8000 tuition for everybody else. It has all the same problems as other public schools, in addition to an administration that isn't fixing the problems, but Open Door is better at covering it up. I mean, you have to get more students and money somehow.Student Review6y ago - First Baptist Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have had 6 Children attend FBCS. We tried 2 other public schools and one private school. FBCS was the best for my children in terms of 'regular' learning and excelled at teaching the children leadership, communication, outside the box thinking and community service. The students are not 'just a number' and the staff is committed, there to educate and not just for a paycheck.Parent Review5y ago - St Jude School
