Larson Middle School

Totally disappointed with Hubbard. They changed their name after my child started attending, no longer "mastery", likely because they could not live up to the title. Everytime I go to the school they make feel like I am inconveniencing them in some way. Bare minimum effort and lackadaisical attitudes by most of the staff, an example of the district as a whole.

Mr. Scott followed a very hands off principal who was absent or disengaged most of the time. When he came to Highland last year, the school was a mess. Bullying and harassment was pervasive and parents overtook the school to their pleasure. He came, set order in the school, implemented strict discipline expectations for staff and students. He even held parents accountable for our conduct. I did not like him at all until I saw the difference in my childs reading performance. I must admit, I was leary of having a stern African-American male leading a school in a community that has little to no positive Black males. He often brags about being the first Black male in the school's 120 year history. He decided to leave to pursue a doctorate. The school has not been the same since he left. I will miss him. I hope Columbus City Schools knows what they lost. The very parents that did not like him because of his color are now saying they miss him.

Saint Agatha School has a wonderful curriculum. The teachers and principal are very open to communication. Father Summers is great with the children. He does jumping jacks with them before mass when it is warm and Mass is outside. My son has excelled at St. Agatha. He went from failing in the public school to getting A's on tests and is a Solid B student. The School Community is also very welcoming to new students. I highly recommend this school.

Montessori Childrens House does not give preference to students who have been enrolled there the previously year. Instead they begin taking $975 nonrefundable deposits 9 months ahead of time. Giving you the impression that your child's spot could be taken by another child. In May we made it clear that our child would not return the following year. Her spot was then filled by another student. However they would not refund the $975 deposit. Since no harm had been done to the school I think the right thing to do is to refund the deposit.
