Boulevard Elementary School

I give the school 5 stars. They do their job. It's evident where the problem is when you take your student to kindergarten and only 2 out of 24 of her classmates have their school supplies (which cost about $30 all together). How do you send your kid to school without the supplies. You have 5 years to prepare for kindergarten.

I am verry disappointed about this school. I chose this school because of the reviews. This school lacks organizational skills. Chaos everywhere. The toddler class teacher has no compassion or passions with the toddlers. Toddlers cry at her classroom and doesn't want to go in. Teacher loses her cool in front of the toddlers and parents. When I visited Horizon Montessori, I was told that the kids don't cry because they have freedom. I can tell you there is no freedom. In toddler class, where kids not even 2 years old, suppose to know how to wash their hands, open lunch box from backpack, eat, close it and put it back. My kid was afraid of the teacher, because all she did, was saying No, no, No put it back, can do this or that. There is no freedom.Teachers shame kids in front of other kids. If the kid did something wrong teacher will tell the parent in front of the kid and also other kids. I am understanding that toddlers are not easy, but to tell them that you cannot touch this toy, put that back constantly it's not the way.

What an amazing learning environment! Our daughter has been a student at Cleveland Montessori for the past four years. She started in the primary program, completed that three-year learning cycle, and is now in the elementary program as a 1st grader. Cleveland Montessori stays true to the Montessori method outlined by Dr. Montessori, and in these turbulent times, especially in the public education and curriculum space, it is comforting to know that my daughter is learning from the time-tested materials. The other thing that is important to me about raising children in our culture is that the school is screen-free. The children have a warm, analog space to love to learn for a lifetime. Lastly, it has to be noted that the school is housed in a century-old building with character, nestled in historic Little Italy blocks away from University Circle, and they walk (in all weather) to a fabulous playground in the neighborhood! All in all, a very, very good choice for building an amazing foundation for life.

We have been part of the COS School community for over 10 years. We've been happy with all aspects of the school - academics, extra curricular opportunities, and the way the teachers and administration handled the unique situation presented by the pandemic. Our oldest child has gone on to private high school and was well-prepared for it by her time at COS.What sets it apart for me is the sense of community. Older students really look out for the little ones and befriend them. Other school parents know my children by name and ask about them long after they've graduated from the school. The school parents are highly involved and active in supporting the school with their time and resources.In addition to strong academics, my kids have benefitted from many of the extra curricular activities the school offers... sports, scouting, Power of the Pen, Lego Robotics, Yearbook, Student Council, Drama, Band/instrument lessons, Coding classes, Student newspaper, etc. As a working parent, I appreciated the on-site afterschool program where my kids could have a snack, do their homework, and play outside.
