Read what parents are saying about Riverside SchoolWe have had now three children in this School. Our last is in 6th grade now and doing fine. Back in 2003 I started a job with the City of Cleveland and was required to live inside the City of Cleveland. That was repealed a few years back, We and many of my neighbors havent left. We could but we have seen no reason to. This school is a gem in the rough. Test scores consistently are better than the Parochial schools and the class size in Riverside is 15 students to a teacher whereas if you look at the Parochial school offerings, they are 25-30 students per teacher. This building has Air Conditioning. The other schools dont. Riverside is a brand new building (The old one was fine in my opinion. Our first was in that School for 2 years) The other schools in the area are ancient. Dont fall for the trap of thinking that if you pay a lot of money for something it is better. This school is one of three in the Cleveland School system that consistently shine. Be really careful with really bad reviews of this school. "All the teachers, All the Staff and All the parents are bad" I wrote this review as a counter to that review. I think we found one of the problem kids parents that were removed from this school. Do your research! Dont pay more for something that is inferior. You will have to figure out something better for High School if you live in this neighborhood. John Marshall is a joke even the teachers agree on that. (That School was renovated too but the quality of student there by in large is horrible) So the good time ends at grade 9.

Posted by a parent on 3/30/2018This school is unbearably sad. I hope you heed my warning. It's a beautiful new school in the middle of a quiet neighborhood which is quite appealing but the teachers, administration, and fellow parents are a complete joke. My son is in the advanced class and his teacher sends home a weekly letter that, since week 1, is completely riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. It makes me cringe. She gives at least an hour of homework every night which ranges nonsensically from 4+4 to long division. It's clearly just printed from some random internet page. She has also instructed these young minds that zero is in fact an even number. Are you serious?! I received a call home from the principal that my son was in an "altercation" . It consisted of him (8 years old) going to the bathroom and being punched in the stomach by a 13 year old! The kid was a "problem child" just roaming the hallways I guess. I was happy they contacted me and they seemed to take good care of my son after the incident, but when I went in for conferences and asked the teacher SHE HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. Then clearly realized she had no idea and said "yes the kids use the restroom". Are you joking me?I've twice came and picked my son up in the car line and there were no teachers or anything. kindergartners and 1st graders just wandering through traffic. Parent's flying up the wrong side of the street to try and pick their kid up faster. I asked my son where the teachers were and he said they were just talking inside and didn't come out today.Just go to the website for this school. It's a generic webpage generated by the garbage CMSD. Call the number listed. It doesn't even work. Go to the calendar of events. You can't see anything that's on there and there's no times listed for early release days. Guess you just have to know. There is zero communication to parents. You had better be ready to go into the school and pick up flyers. If you do go in, expect to be confronted by an extremely rude office assistant. Truly I don't blame her. You can't expect ONE SINGLE PERSON to handle every person and phone call that comes in. Just one. For a K-8 school.I thought it looked ok and people seemed nice. I feel regretful my child wasted a year of his life here. Parents who think this school is nice have clearly not seen what a nice school is like.
Posted by a community member on 5/9/2017The teachers are awesome and really care! We finally found a public school that has sports.
Posted by a parent on 4/2/2014Great school. Positive environment. Most teachers are fantastic! A lot of family involvement. Better than the surrounding parochial schools. Service oriented. Strong parent organization. The star of CMSD.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThese teachers and so-called helpers were so quick to tell on my child when he is fighting in school, but my son told me some of those kids were actually hitting him first, and there was one incident when my son told me another student did tried to do something to him and he told the teacher but they never mentioned it to me. i do not care for this school at all and i agree with the other parents don't send your child to this school, and another thing i may add is agree with what the one parent say. i do not like the way that lunch lady talk to them she talks to them down those kids in a demeaning way. it was one time i was there, and she yelled at the kids because they didn't want their baked beans and fries all piled on top of the hot dog. who eats like that ?they are not dogs they are kids. i wouldn't even eat my food like that. 5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis School has too many problems! Fights breaking out and teachers getting assaulted and only giving a 2 day suspension, kids just seem to roam around the halls and teachers do nothing about it when these kids should be in class! The foul language I hear coming out of some of the students as young as 2nd grade in front of teachers and nothing gets said about it! Always seeing masks thrown all over school property instead of disposing properly! Forcing kids to wear masks that are proven to not work at all which is borderline child abuse and it's making my child develop headaches regularly! Trash overflowing the dumpsters! This is just what I see on a daily basis! There have been a few times my child didn't come to school and purposely didn't call to see if I got a call notifying me of his absence and to no surprise I never received calls to let me know! It's pretty scary to know this because if a child were to get kidnapped the parents wouldn't know until their kid doesn't come home! You are failing our kids and us parents by the way you run the school and do nothing to improve this school! To consider this school a "Great" school is laughable because it's anything but great! In fact it's a disappointment at best!Parent Review2y ago - Hayes Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is a great school I used to attend OLA and now my kids do! OLA has a great staff and also social workers for kids going through a hard time. They even have classes with these social workers that teach about mental health. They have many clubs including brain brawl, tutoring, chess club, lego club, and even a writing club this is a great school and I really recommend it!Parent Review1y ago - Garfield Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’d give zero stars if I could. Bullying, unsafe and toxic environment. Lots of sweeping violent incidents under the rug and you will hear about them only from your children or other parents. If you ask staff about them they go blank. Staff and teachers look the other way when it comes to bullying. They try to take the easy route on things and are afraid to deal with the violent parents of vile kids because they’re scared of them and try to instead shift blame on the easier going, nicer parents and their children. Toxic with a capital T.Parent Review7mo ago
