It's a good school. As told by other reviewers, sure, there may be a bullying problem, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the district itself is horrible. Attempts at revamping the policies of student-to-student interactions is an attempt at fixing the problems reported by parents. Bullying, however, is the cause of parental influence. Every single school has a bullying issue, though this one just seems worse because it is smaller, and drama is inflated. Trust me, I know. However, throughout my years here, I have come to realize the influence that our teachers have on students. The teaching styles are unique and passionate, and I find myself going to class every single day excited to learn something new. I know many people absolutely love learning in these classes. People that believe that their children are being left in the dust are missing out on a key component of learning-- things like that happen. Some students are not as adept at learning as others. This is merely a fact, and it is not the school's responsibility to change the way a student thinks. This is the student's choice, so blaming the school for their failure is turning a blind eye to this simple explanation. The teachers at Canfield, from my experience, are solely there to help. They are not there to inhibit your child's learning. The vast majority of teachers here are overqualified for their jobs. Every single time I've asked for help I've been helped. Furthermore, sports are not associated with the quality of the school itself. Coaches are not directed by the school, and the Athletic Director is not going to be the person to confront about your child's playing time. Times are changed. Varsity sports are not mainly for fun. They are akin to college athletics. If you are worried for your child's well-being, there is always an explanation for bullying or mistreatment. Not everything is the school's fault. The programs in place for students are phenomenal, and if you don't see the opportunities offered by Canfield schools, then you are not paying attention to the full picture. Needless complaining gets you nowhere. Simply find the roots of problems with your child if you worry about bullying and stop blaming the school for every single negative interaction between classmates. School is about learning and finding who you are. It is not about parental interference against a misunderstanding that may hurt your child's feelings. This is high school. We are almost adults. We should handle it.

Both my children were absolutely destroyed by this school. I am originally from Austintown, but moved to Canfield when my children were very small thinking it was i better school system. I never thought i would have to apologize to my kids for bringing them here. Mainly involving its sports, the school is plagued by community politics, bullying and the worst that i wouldnt expect would be allowed, retaliation. The past AD ruined the school, and turned away from any conflict and never questioned the coaching staff. I asked him one time, along with the head principle, what there priority was in high school sports. There reply "To win" saddened me as they have long forgotten the reason for high school sports. Feel free to do a records request, all coaching yearly reviews are blank. With the recent resignation with the superintendent, i hope it gets better for future students. Problem is, there is a new Superintendent, but the old bad worms and problems still exist. I went through a 7 year lawsuit, and instead of trying to fix the issues, they are brushed under the rug as they no the the problem goes away the following year until it happens to the next person. I vented a bit, i apologize, but beware of this school system. There is a reason they have the worst reputation in the district.

Don't just look at the scholastic scores and think that this is a great school! Horrible experiences with bullying here and not just us personally. Many students move or do open enrollment at other schools in spite of the academic score. Ask the district for the info... Students are disrespectful, mean and petty to each other. Police have been involved in many bullying incidents, everything is covered up and the public seems to have no clue. Administration and teachers look the other way. Do your kid a favor and run the other way.
