Newburgh Jabemacle Elementary School

The overall moral of this school is awful. Every year so many kids leave because their kids are depressed, discouraged and hate school. Despite an ongoing “positivity project” the students and teachers continue to bully, gaslight and generally just don’t seem to care. The gym teacher can’t even get the kids to enjoy a game of tag they are all just walking around the gym ignoring him while he’s on his phone. There is no meaningful art or music curriculum, they have a wonderful library and yet the kids read books off a white board. It’s sad that is is the elementary school experience for these kids they deserve better.

Wonderful experience here. My daughter has thrived in this school, the teachers from other grades even seem to know her, they go out of their way to challenge her and foster a love of learning, and have kept me updated regularly on both social and academic issues.

HORRIBLE SCHOOL. If you have a choice in placement do not send them here. They don’t communicate well. The principal and vice principal are incompetent and have done nothing to secure the safety of my child. HORRIBLE. I would give zero stars if I could.

Bullying at the school is ignored. The school sends out letters asking for incidents to be reported. Multiple people reported on an incident of a young girl being called sexually inappropriate words over the course of months. Nothing was done. They readily give detention for minor infractions, but refuse to take action on incidents that need attention. Education wise the school has slipped significantly in the last 3-4 years. The middle school used to have 6 teachers, they now have 3 and no TAs. The teachers are great, but how much can one teacher do. The school now resembles a poorly run business. They are very concerned about profits (as they should be), but do not provide a good product any longer. The Mount continues to charge more and more and give less and less. The Mount is in control of the school, but they ignore it. They show up for 60 minutes during a Saturday 5K in the fall, then are nowhere to be seen the rest of the school year. We had kids at this school over the course of 12 years. The quality of the school has decreased significantly over that time. There are great teachers that love the children, but the Mount views the school as a profit center and does not provide it the support it needs.
