Ps 242 The Young Diplomats Magnet School

My child has been enrolled in this school since first grade and our experience is great. The small size of the school allows for interactions between all classroom and fosters an incusive and safe environment for all. The teachers are extremely involved and approachable, they are always open to discuss my child progress and ways to improve. The school staff is amazing, kind and very responsive, it feels like a tight community, almost a big family. The school PTA is very active and promotes different ways for parents to meet and get involved.

My children have gone to this school for elementary education. The teachers have always been welcoming. They have fostered a love of reading, math and stem for my children to excel. They provided feedback to children and families on areas they excelled at and can grow in. They use different resources to make learning fun like iready. Parent engagement is fostered through parent meetings as well. Lastly, my children learned better ways to socialize with others and are very helpful to one another.

Principle and assisted principal are extremely rude. You have a safety concern and all is being done is nothing. The principal tells you what she thinks and that is your child is lying. They are very disrespectful to parents. My child is afraid of going to school every day.

This school is a disappointment. Teachers show minimal interest in the academic progression of their students. My six year old daughter receives homework assignments with no prior directives or explanations. Minimum time is spent on modules. Children with learning disabilities are not given adequate academic support.Inquiries are frequently overlooked. Classroom management is lacking. My daughter constantly finds errors in the learning lessons. Not to mention, important notices are delivered via mailing labels affixed to clothing. My daughter has learned more in Pre-K at another school. I will not be sending my child back to The Young Diplomats Magnet Academy. The name is deceptive. If someone else has experienced a better curriculum than mine - Kudos.

Just participated in The Breakfast Club this morning February 2, 2017. This club is every Thursday of the month consisting of the Principal, Parent Coordinator and PTA President. To engage with the parents brainstorming ideas that we'd like to see happen at YDMA.
