Posted by a parent on 2/15/2023We have been at this school for 4 years and are so happy. The teachers are so supportive of our children’s needs and really take the time to get to know each child and meet them where they are, supporting them as individual learners while also working to cultivate a wonderful community. We feel so lucky to be part of their wonderful school!
Posted by a parent on 2/15/2023Our child has been at Peck Slip for a few years now; reading, writing, and doing math at a level we are more than happy with. We feel our child is safe and taken care of when at school. It feels like a small school.
Posted by a parent on 2/3/2023Peck Slip is a wonderful elementary school. My children swooned upon meeting the Peck Slip, resident dog, Phoebe… (social emotional support) and live snakes. Teacher ability to engage students is exceptional. On the flip side, recess supervision can sometimes be lacking. I hear that the principal is considering opening the school library during the recess period for children who prefer a less exuberant recess outlet. TBD
Posted by a parent on 1/31/2023We've been a Peck Slip family for 5 years and are quite happy with it. The school is a great size (not large but also not too small) and the building is modern and lovely. The office staff is very engaged and responsive and my kids have had great teachers. Each grade has a curriculum and regular homework starts in 2nd grade so I don't really follow the Covid-era reviews indicating otherwise. Peck Slip kids enjoy various programs and residencies like storytelling, music, band, architecture and history and our art and music teachers are especially great. The school is progressive in that teachers and administrators care deeply about ensuring Peck Slip kids are kind and empathetic; I'm not sure who would object to that! The one con is that the cafeteria only serves vegetarian food but there's usually a cheese sandwich or sunbutter and jam sandwich available most days for kids who don't want the main entree (or they can bring lunch from home, which can contain anything, including meat, with the exception of peanuts).

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has great people who work there and care for the children. However, the administration is terrible. They do not care for their staffs overall well being. They implement programs that take time away from academics. They are consistently out of compliance and put things off on the staff meanwhile it was their oversite. The children are suffering as some of their needs are being looked over and pushed aside. There are children with behavioral issues who have done no work throughout the year. They do not meet their IEP goals and they are being pushed to the next grade. This is a disservice! I would not recommend anyone sending their child to this school unless they are asian because that is the population they cater too.Other Review1y ago - Ps 126 Jacob August Riis

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI taught at P'S 126 for many years. It is one of the most thriving schools for ongoing professional study. The teachers along with administration truly study their craft of teaching knowing that students deserve the very best in progressive thinking around methods and content of teaching.Other Review10y ago - Spruce Street School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is lacking in many areas. Don't be fooled by the new exterior. The biggest problem area of all is leadership which is very poor. The principal hides many issues such as bullying and other events that happen in the building that she continuously keeps from the parents. Teachers here don't take the time or even care to make subjects more interesting. Zero effort in class just for show when parents come around for 30 minutes twice the school year to sit in class. Repeating a lesson to them is an absolute hassle and the blame falls on the kids all the time. They don't strive to help, they want to leave as soon as possible. My kids came in 2017 and since being very excited about the teachers back at the beginning we have seen a huge decline in all the years up till now 2023. The music teacher has been replaced 3 times and the current one is still completely horrible, lacking any skill to teach at all. Students watch cartoon movies in class constantly! She gave a 20-minute recital with minimal effort on her part. It lacked substance and was a complete letdown and a waste of time to come in mid-day work hours. Years back at the beginning a recital concert was an hour long and the students learned a lot, that's back in 2017. The Art teacher has also been replaced 5 times. In the beginning, there used to be some type of art show but now Art at this school is none existent. The (PTA) keep asking for money and contributions but where it all gets spent is a complete mystery because they offer nothing of value for many years now! I absolutely would not recommend this school to anyone.Parent Review10mo ago - St Joseph School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went St Joseph School for for 7th and 8th grades. The school have excellent teachers and programs. More than 50% of the students in my school year got accepted into the 3 top high schools in New York City. The staffs are well discipline and knowlegable.Other Review11y ago - Downtown Little School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAmazing school with the most wonderful approach to development. Each child is seen as an individual and encouraged to thrive as they explore the day, materials and classroom. Kate Delacourt is extraordinary. She 'gets' kids unlike anyone else I have ever seen. I wish DLS went through high school, we would stay forever.Parent Review13y ago - Blue School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMeh it’s okay… the teachers were not strict enough and I barely learned anything in 4th grade… needed a writing tutor. A few years ago I got in a fight with a kid and the teachers wanted me to call him my “friend” like this kid punched me in the face he isn’t my friend. One more thing back in 2nd and 3rd grade the lunch they served at the school was terrible, like the food was frozen, bland and I found a hair in my rice and beans. Still a few positives are: nice teacher, nice students, fun activities, especially p.e and I hope blue school takes this information in to consideration. Lol idk why I wrote this.Parent Review1y ago
