Posted by a parent on 3/29/2024This is a great school with caring staff and interactive learning. The students enjoy recess and project based learning. This school can improve in having more after school activities and sports.

Posted by a community member on 12/9/2012I am one of the students in Ms.131. I love this school so much, i don't even want to leave. Some of the things that I like about this school, is the help, and attention the teacher gives to a student. When you don't understand something, they will help you right away, and they will make sure you understand the concepts. Plus, this school is very, very safe.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has great people who work there and care for the children. However, the administration is terrible. They do not care for their staffs overall well being. They implement programs that take time away from academics. They are consistently out of compliance and put things off on the staff meanwhile it was their oversite. The children are suffering as some of their needs are being looked over and pushed aside. There are children with behavioral issues who have done no work throughout the year. They do not meet their IEP goals and they are being pushed to the next grade. This is a disservice! I would not recommend anyone sending their child to this school unless they are asian because that is the population they cater too.Other Review1y ago - Ps 2 Meyer London

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy review of this school as a parent of 2 who are currently in the school -- I agree with the below comments regarding PS 124. My experience is similar to the below comment. In the past we had Principal Hom, who was by far the best as she was communicative with parents, nurturing with our children, and dealt with any issues with her heart and soul. Since the new principal, Yi Law Chan, started, things started to change in the school. MANY festivities were taken away from the school community and our children. For example, many school plaques and trophies disappeared from the front of the school, trick-or-treating was taken away, visit from Santa, Christmas tree, cultural dances and celebrations. Let’s not forget, our children live in this community, often in small apartments, where we cannot put up a Christmas tree so coming into the school and seeing the tree was a delight for our children. Trick or treating as well, our families don’t live in suburban neighborhoods where we can walk around to trick or treat. What harm is it to allow our kids to do this safely inside of the school? Now our school walls are bare and feels like a prison. It’s almost as if this principal wants to erase its history and it’s a SHAME!Our previous principal was inclusive in so many ways. Although the Christmas tree was up, there was a Menora, and something posted about Kwanzaa. Because of how poorly this principal is running things makes us miss our previous principal so much. This would have never happened on her watch.Parent Review6mo ago - Ps 130 Hernando De Soto

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy kids are all attending PS 130M, my older one already graduate and younger one still in. I have so many years experience with this school and I love this school so much. Lots of art programs, very responsible teachers and quick response to any bully issues. The High Asian percentage gave this school a unique culture like every lunar Chinese New Year, school will give kid red envelop for good luck. The chance to learn lion dance and put a show on Chinese New Year. Yearly banquet with a feast of Chinese food with a few to say. PS130 gave my kids and I very happy memories.Parent Review2y ago - St Joseph School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy kids all have a great time learning at the school. I love the teachers at the school, their peers and the fellow parents. The learning environment is well-structured, the teachers are very competent and passionate about their teachings, and the students are eager learners since their parents are very involved in their education and want them to be achievers. Most of the teachers are beyond amazing. I admire that they really take pride in their teaching and know the students well. When I met their teachers, I could tell that they know my kids well. They are so patient with their shortcomings. My kids qualified for G &T programs but we chose to put them in Transfiguration because I have heard so many good things about the school. I am so glad that I put them there. Not only they are thriving academically but also they are learning to be kind and emphatic!Parent Review3mo ago
