I went too this school in 1999

I have one child who just graduated from 5th grade and had a wonderful experience.My son just finished 1st grade and has special needs. His experience was horrible. We were continuously told that the school could accommodate his needs, which they could not. I continually expressed concern this past year about the special education teacher's treatment of him. I had been told by other parents that he was inappropriately being disciplined by her. I expressed my concerns to the new principal, who told me that I shouldn't be influenced by other people's "perceptions." We continued to express concern when my son started having nightmares and lashing out at home. He started not wanting to go to school and having meltdowns at the door (when he loved to go last year). Finally, a staff person called another mother in the class to tell her that 4 kids were being mistreated by the special education teacher, and that this teacher had a "fixation" on my son. I was later told that he was being forcefully pulled by the arm and screamed at and humiliated by the same teacher. The mother who received the phone call went to the principal who told her that no one else had expressed concern about this teacher. This was untrue as 5 parents had gone to him with complaints previously. It is very difficult to get your child out of the school once they are in. There are not a lot of good options for kids in the area, especially those with special needs. This school does not have the expertise to work with your child. I learned afterwards, from a team of people observing my son in the classroom for another program, that he was spending hours of the day wandering the halls of the school. I did not know this. This is not ok. He learned basically nothing and now hates school. I wish I had sent my son in with a camera to get this teacher on film, because despite mine and other parents complaints, this teacher will be returning to teach in the fall. Please send your child to this school with caution. If there is a problem, it won't be addressed, it will be hidden. Don't send your special needs child here because they simply aren't able to accommodate but will insist they can.

Our son has been attending kindergarten at OLL during the 2020-2021 season. The teachers went above and beyond remaining in a hybrid model ensuring the children were receiving valuable in-person learning while maintaining safety. I was concerned how 2020 was going to hinder my son's learning ability in such a model and being socially distant, however, OLL and the teachers committed themselves to the children making it blessing for our son's education and continued learning during a challenging time. Now in 2021, he's been in school full-time and he's been thriving with math, reading, writing, language, art and so much more. I can't speak for bullying and if there are any issues throughout the school. I'm not aware of any because I'm not tuned in with other grade levels and the ins and outs of daily operations. Strictly speaking about our son's kindergarten class, there has been no issues we have been made aware of at all and we have seen no change in our sons attitude to suggest there has been. I've been very happy to see him develop and nurtured by the teachers, the principle (direct communication with us) and his wonderful school friends. The parents and teachers are family and faith oriented and wholesome and it reflects that in the students. We look forward to continuing our son's education at OLL!

As a student who was at this school for over 10 years it is horrible. I personally was a victim of parents gossip and children’s bullying. The teachers play favorites and gossip about their own classes infront of kids. As someone who had mental health issues this school is so ineffective at helping kids it’s almost as if they don’t care. They are all talk of how they handle bullying but never have actually done anything to help the students. I would never want my child in an environment dreading school not because they are learning but because of the people they see in the building. It is run down and that includes keeping girls and boys bathrooms door’s open so people can see inside. Female teachers have entered boy’s restrooms. Girl students are denied feminine hygiene products and are denied access to the bathroom. They try and teach, Key word TRY. We have terrible clientele and accept kids who have been to juvenile detention centers and do not help fix their problematic behavior. This school has recently in my time here had a child with a weapon and tried to use the weapon. Kids are harassed constantly and there is only a few teachers who support you. This school is only okay if you need a temporary place, would not recommend from the stories of a former student.
