Harold O Levy School

We moved to this neighborhood from Queens 3 years ago, and at that time we are not pleased with what our "Zoned School" ratings and reviews. SInce I don't know much about the neighborhood, I rely on reviews. I was happy when I and my husband saw this school, it is a non zoned school, and anybody can be part of it. At the time, both of my children are on a waiting list. My daughter is waitlisted as number 3 and my son waitlisted somewhere between the number of 16-20, (i don't really remember) I was worried because it's almost the end of that current school year and I haven't heard from them. I've been persistent because we haven't officially moved. And just want to know exactly whats the plan so if just they can't go in, I can't find somewhere else. My last option would be to register them in the zoned school but once Washington Heights Academy called me I will automatically transfer my children right away. But like I said, that's my last option. I haven't given up that time but I'm still on a lookout for schools. So I'm juggling too many things at the same time. Summertime is coming and finally, they told me that my daughter is eligible to be in their school for the next school year but my son is still on the waiting list, like between 10-15. He bumped up but still, I have to figure out to find an alternative for him. I realized that if my daughter is eligible for the coming school year, that makes my son 1st priority because he has a sibling registered in the school (it didn't even matter no more what number his in) because there's no way I can put my kids into two different schools. That's insane. But alas, the school principal and everyone at the office at the time, were so amazing and very accomodating. They helped me get my two kids to be in the same school. Since that day, I have a good experience starting with the principal, teachers, and administrative staff all the way to the security person that greets you when you enter the building. It's an amazing school. They have junior high but you can't compare them to other junior high children. They don't act wild. I love it. Even if my kids have to travel, it didn't matter as long as they having a great time and getting the best education they need. Who says public school is no good. Well you might want to rethink that again because I found one. Happy to be part of this community.

I do not recommend it as a school if they cannot handle normal children, especially children who have a defesis or an EIP, do not offer any help to the students, they just want to get out of it, that is why the teachers leave their jobs because the administration is bad. principal is terrible, she was a teacher and it's her first year as principal and she doesn't know anything it's a waste of time to send your child to this school if it's a waste of time the children don't learn anything the parents have to do the teachers' work because the teachers don't do their job that's why people leave school. and then they say that because their school does not have funds because the school is bad, the administration and the teacher and the principal

I would rate this school with 5 stars because the children are happy and want to come to school. There are many activities and celebrations to look forward too, including annual masses and prayer services. The teachers are prepared and welcoming to students. The principal works tirelessly to see that the school was run in an orderly and effective manner. He even works Sundays in the office! Parents can meet with him on Sundays too.

This is our daughter first year at MCA and we love it. They are 100% focus in the students educational growth. We feel the school is working with us to build our daughters values and education. We transfer our daughter from public school. Her educational progress in amazing. She was very behind when she started 1st grade. The teacher and the school provided us with resources, like tutoring and guidance on how to help my daughter to reach the level of education with the rest of class group. Before the end of the year, she was able to be current with the other students. The teacher has helped us every step of the way. The small class group help to focus more in the student and to notice when they are slacking in certain areas. We love MCA and now we are bringing our youngest to be part of the school too.
