Read what parents are saying about Community Action School Ms 258I’m a current student at CAS. It’s a good school, but definitely has some flaws. The kids there are rowdy, immature, and are bullies. If you are not like them, you are bound to have some trouble. In the few days I was here, it’s hard to talk to someone because they’re so different from me and make me uncomfortable. The teachers are great, but in class I feel like I’m not learning that much. For me, The topics we talk about are sort of easy. I don’t know if it will change. Also, the students in class are very distracting. It’s hard to learn because they are always talking and never let the teachers actually start the lesson. In all, I would not recommend CAS to mature students, you will have a hard time for sure.
Posted by a student on 9/20/2022I graduated from community action school and it was a wonderful experience. I still remember how welcoming the teachers were, how much I enjoyed my classes and the amazing extracurricular activities, and how much I learned from CAS. I remember the arts and crafts we did, being in multiple plays, and loving the science experiments. I would highly recommend CAS!
Posted by a community member on 5/10/2021My son is currently in the 8th grade at Community Action School and his time here has been nothing short of a miracle! After a very long road, my son transferred to CAS in October 2020. From my very first interation wtih the Parent Coordinator, Ms. Fittipaldi, to every single interaction my son and I have had wtih the entire team of content and special education teachers, the Principal, the Assistant Principal, the Guidance Counselor, the OT, the Speech and Language Specialist, the safety officers and the women who serve lunch (I'm sure I'm missing someone, but you get what i'm trying to say here), my son has been lifted up and cared for and listened to and understood. I feel like we have been at CAS forever and it's only been 7 months! What every single person has done for my son since the first day he began attending school is beyond what i could have ever imagined. My son was falling apart at his old school, now he looks forward to going to school. He is learning and growing and working and feeling proud of what he is accomplishing. He has gained confidence and cares about how he is doing in school. He has said to me on more than one occasion that he wishes he started at CAS and can't wait to return to visit to show them how well he is doing in the future. He cares because they care. Mr. Sullivan, the Principal and the entire community of teachers, specialists, and staff have gone so far beyond my wildest expectations to give my son what he needed. I will be forever grateful to Community Action School.
Posted by a parent on 5/10/2021This school was by far the worst school I've ever attended. The staff here lack diversity and lack any sort of plan when it comes to bullying and misbehaving of the students. They take no real actions when a kid gets into an altercation with another kid but to apologize. They continuously promise change whether that be a new approach for anything happening with the kids but fail to follow through. The schools principle is the least interactive with the kids and never addresses real school problems. The students in this school and area need real attention and guidance ( which the guidance counselor fails to do) and this school is not in anyone's best interest for their kids.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone, no matter what your circumstance may be. I barely learned anything in my years at Studio. They made the children do chores at school instead of learning like they should be. There is no steady curriculum and they would stop our academic classes during the year to work on various projects of theirs such as: the play, the annual gala, multicultural festival, Virginia O’Hanlon event, etc. Attending this school for several years was one of the most dreadful and emotionally harmful experiences of my life. I regret it deeply.Other Review9mo ago - The Geneva School of Manhattan

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageARS is such a wonderful school. This is my oldest child's third year at ARS and my youngest's first. All of their teachers have been dedicated and inspirational as is the principal. I'm happy for the experience they are having and also feel grateful as a parent for the experience I have in my interactions with ARS.Parent Review1y ago - Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School
