Hamilton School

As a parent, I feel that there isn't nearly enough parent involvement since covid. All of my friends have days where they are able to go to their children's school and volunteer , or to read to their class. (children as old as 4th grade). That doesn't happen here, which makes me think that they have more to hide. On several occasions I've driven by the school during recess and saw zero supervision. Assistants were either talking to one another or looking at their phones. Twice I saw strangers on the OTHER side of the fence talking to my child and other children, it's completely unsafe. The language that the teachers and TA's use with the students isn't appropriate at most times. I've been teaching for over 12 years, and no matter how stressed I was or how bad my day was going, I would never speak to a child in my class, they way that my child and his classmates have been spoken to. They don't do anything to promote kindness amongst their peers. No assembly, or kindness week/ month. I really wanted this school, and now I regret my choice.

I am very disappointed at Rosemarie Ann Siragusa and its principal. My 4 YEAR OLD SON was bullied by another student in the class. The other student physically assaulted my son. He choked him and went as far as spitting on my son. I complained to the teacher and nothing was done except a meeting with the teacher. I am beyond disgusted by how me and my son was treated. Grade is pre K just FYI

I do not recommend working at this school, especially if you’re a new teacher. Dr. Waterman is completely unprofessional and lacks the vision needed to make this a successful school environment SAFE for both teachers and students. There is no discipline, no person you can go to for help but “call security”. When you do ask for help, it is made to seem like you’re weak and are incompetent. When I no longer was able to emotionally and mentally handle the unrealistic, insane expectations of this school climate and expressed this to Dr. Waterman ONLY about putting my 30 days in, she told the whole school and the remaining weeks were hell. Security no longer came meanwhile students were fighting, screaming, running out the class, throwing things. I cried for months while working here, thinking it was me. It was not, it is THIS SCHOOL and the blind admin who choose not to implement a strong system needed for this type of climate.

This is one of the best schools you can get in the Bronx. The administrators, teachers and supporting staff are always eager to work with students and parents to improve learning outcomes and community engagement. The School has really improved over time.

This is great school but my daughter loves this school but it when it comes to helping kids who are much slower or need more assistant in the class that is very lacking and when it comes to teacher going the extra mile to help a student who needs extra help it’s also lacking . When I ask the teacher to see if she can spend an extra before class start to help her with maths or English the teacher responded was I don’t do that . That was so negative of a teacher to say that . I thought teacher was suppose to go the extra mile have his or her succeed but obo not . And they need to provide more help to kids who need help with maths n English because those are the two areas that kids struggle with . And they can do so much better than for the money the charge for tutition .
