I have ZERO idea why this school is ranked with a "6". We moved here from CA and the school has AMAZING classes to take, all the AP and IB courses, the sports are strong, the teachers are good, it is in a beautiful location...I think east coast schools are biased to private schools. This is a great school and you need to change your score.

LBHS is a microcosm of the town itself, possibly the world. There is a wide range of wealth, race, and family backgrounds. The benefit of attending a school like LB, is that it will provide students a glimpse of what the real world is like. There will always be difficult people in life (i.e students with behavioral issues that disrupt class) but you learn to deal with those and rise above. Additionally, it taught be to be an advocate for myself without “mommy & daddy” calling like some students relied on. Sometimes it took me sitting in the guidance office and being annoying to get what I needed to succeed (this was an invaluable lesson for college). My last takeaway from LBHS was that it made me realize I didn’t want to be in the same type of environment in college and my future. Such an environment drove me upward and onward to a University with a terrific Alum network, that has landed me positions I never imagined. Much like college, it’s what you make of an experience. You can graduate destined for world renowned success, a complacent townie who never goes over the bridge or a innovative entrepreneur, LBHS let’s you decide (parenting & individual personality of course factor in).

I have my second child going through LBHS and I am thrilled with the level of education he is receiving. My daughter graduated class of 2013 and is now a student at Hofstra University. She was completely prepared and had her choice of several prestigious universities. My son is now on the wrestling team which just won the Nassau County Championship. Go Marines! When people come to our school for matches they remark on the beautiful school with our huge indoor swimming pool. My son is taking lifeguarding as a class for gym this year. The teachers and staff are responsive and reasonable. On the one hand, we have a large group of kids who are eligible for free lunch but on the other hand we do not qualify for much state aid as it is based on property taxes and our homes are worth too much. The school is on the bay with the cafeteria having a wall of windows which face the bay. We have an International Baccalaureate (IB) program and we are one of the first schools to offer this program. We have an approximate 96% graduation rate. Even with our diverse population! The school does a great job.

My "school" is really a prison. I have been accepted into great colleges such as Loyola University and College of Charleston but no thanks to this PRISON. This is a place where you are penalized for doing the right thing. There are fights every week. The bathrooms are the most unsanitary places I have ever entered. IF YOU LOVE YOUR CHILD DO NOT SEND THEM HERE! My biggest regret in life is attending Long Beach High School.

As a current senior at Long Beach High School, I am truly amazed to even come across reviews that give any sort of praise to this school. Unfortunately, from my experience I have very few positive things to say about LBHS. Starting from freshman year, I have experienced countless problems with the staff, students, schedules you name it. I wish I could say things got better but they didn't. The students at this school are incredibly disrespectful let alone violent. Very often you will see fights break out in all areas of the school. The teachers spend the majority of their time reprimanding students making it hard for those who wish to learn succeed. Kids here DON'T CARE plain and simple. After debating over LBHS or private school my parents thought it would be best to put me into private school so I could excel amongst the others. This was not the case. As my high school career comes to a close I regret not going to private school and getting a proper education. PARENTS DO NOT ENROLL YOUR CHILDREN HERE. I promise you, if you do you will come to regret your decision SOONER than later.
