Read what parents are saying about Cold Spring Harbor High SchoolPros rest mainly with the schools themselves, cons with the now dominant community of parents. Small classes, safe, caring teachers. Some outstanding teachers who go above and beyond and many duds. CSH used to be a classy quiet community of educated families where no one knew who was wealthy and who wasn't...that was not the priority. Now the district has been newly flooded with beer bellied finance bros and families who have inherited a business who are desperate to show their net worth to anyone who will look and relive their own youth through their kids sports. The social environment feels like a High School from the 80's except the mean kids are dominant. Many families pull kids each year from the school due to as many people call it "an awful grade". The secret sauce to all of this is not only the lack of diversity but mainly the lack of economic diversity. Parents want so badly for their kids to be cool they even supply their very young kids alcohol for parties. If you are leaving NYC and looking for a progressive learning and social environment this is not it. Our town recently voted in a BOE member who openly supports "Don't Say Gay" and rejects inclusion. The new Superintendent seems to be capable and intelligent and we are hopeful that she can move the district ahead and help it not go back in time.
Posted by a parent on 5/18/2022I love this school. I can’t say enough good things about the staff, students and their parents. The most beautiful place to live and the best school.
Posted by a parent on 7/26/2021Excellent school with so much to offer! Strong athletics, tons of great clubs, wonderful arts programs with enthusiastic engaging teachers. My kids do sports, robotics, theater, jazz club, chess club, art club and are excelling academically too!!

Posted by a parent on 9/21/2020Some reviews here are very unfair. We are very happy with the staff and the administration. They are very supportive, responsive, and accessible. The class sizes are small. The school's academic environment is rigorous but not overly high pressure. The social environment is very friendly and inclusive. We are very happy here!

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOakwood is the primary (k-2) for this address. Countrywood is the other primary center. All of the South Huntington School District schools are excellent with excellent, progressive teachers. Some parents may be angry with some of the administrators or teachers, so they will give this district a low grade.... do not pay attention to those low grades.Parent Review2y ago - St Patrick's School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy older child was enrolled at a local public primary school until 2nd grade when an ongoing subpar experience forced us to reevaluate our decisions. As local residents and alumni of the public district, it was not an easy choice to leave but we pulled him out and enrolled both our boys two years ago. I wasn't sure what to expect having heard both good and bad reviews--but nearly two years later I can't say enough good things about St. Patrick's.My older son is an excellent student who excels anywhere--so it wasn't exactly about finding a better education though we certainly didn't want his academics to suffer. But if you ask him, he will tell you that the academic environment is more challenging, the student body overall is more engaged, and the school itself holds children far more accountable than his experience at public school. My younger son is also very bright but required special services for speech and some accommodations. The public school district and St. Patrick's worked together seamlessly to ensure a comprehensive approach to his support and he is flourishing. We have an entire team of people dedicated to his well-being through the school and he's now beyond grade-level expectations in core areas.I find the teachers extremely approachable and flexible. They adapt their teaching to individual children--and have the support of the school and means to do so as the class sizes are relatively small (17-18 kids in each class we've been in). The teachers are all extremely invested in the academic, social, and emotional welfare of the children. There is also a full-time social worker who is accessible to children and parents at all times. There is an abundance of extracurricular opportunities that far outpace those at the primary school level in the surrounding public school district. And the curriculum moves at a faster pace as well. The homework, on the other hand, seems like less busy work and worksheets than my friends' children at other schools--which we appreciate. There is a tremendous emphasis on family involvement and the community here is truly unparalleled. The school events are extremely well attended and the volunteership among families and children is remarkable. They educate the whole child and support the whole family and my only regret is not joining this school sooner. Our current experience applies to grades K through 4th. Families ahead of us have shared equally great things about grades 5th through 8th as well.Parent Review1y ago - East Woods School
