Posted by a parent on 3/4/2026I have had two kids attend PS222. My oldest graduated in 2023, and her sister is currently a second grader. The overwhelming majority of their teachers have been really effective and caring. Some of them have been outstanding (shout out to Mrs. Walsh in Kindergarten and Mrs. Gallagher in 4th grade!

My child has an IEP and all they care about is disable your child for a special education teacher could have a job. A teacher in the first grade drove my son almost to a nervous breakdown, and then the school recognized him as a developmental lagging behind. The school staff tricked me into signing the documents and transferred the child to a special class. Despite the fact that 6 months before that, he was one of the best in the Russian school. NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAbsolutely love this school! Have 3 boys there and couldn't imagine sending them any where else. The teachers, rebbeim and administration are all warm and caring. The education is great! Being a part of this school is more like being part of a family. It has a very normative parent body , which is also a plus. NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI graduated from St Thomas Aquinas in 1944. I have very favorable memories of the school, the nuns and my classmates. The academic quality was very high (I won a competitive scholarship to St John's Prep) even though our circumstances would be regarded as appalling today. We had a very large class -- 76 students in the room one year -- but we learned,and the nuns kept us in line. Deficiencies: our music, art and science education was nil. Strengths: math (well ahead of the local public schools); English (lots of writing, concentration on sentence structure and spelling); US history -- every year from fourth grade thru eighth...Ultimately, I became a fairly prominent research scientist, and I thank the school for a good start.Other Review15y ago - Yeshiva Derech Hatorah
