I have had mixed feelings about the school for yrs. While I really like the teachers, the school is poorly run and very disorganized, I have experienced my child getting lost in kindergarden, bullying, and several accidents. The principal seems disconnected from what is going on in her own school, often leaving early. Its redeeming quality is the SOARS program which is supposed to be more challenging and has excellent teachers who care. The school is overcrowded and underfunded with a real lack of quality programs; one exception being the chess club. There's no organized sports for active children. Academically my children are doing very well which is most importance. I am very hands on and establish a relationship with the teachers and devote extra time with challenging homework. With class sizes of app. 25 kids the curriculum is often rushed. Low performing English and Math scores are something to be concerned about. There are much better schools to choose from if you have a choice. Tthere seems to be the same problems every year. Those scores are atrocious and should not be acceptable to any parent, teacher, Principal or The Board of Education.

I must admit, i was hesitant at first of this school. then because it was our only zone school, Ihad no choice but to enroll my son there. i must tell you, so it's been really good. he loves going to school in the morning. he loves his teacher and enjoys the daily lessons and activities. there's a variety of programs including arts, music and chess. not to mention the totally FREE CAMBA program. camba provides the kids with 2.5 hours of activities, a hot supper and they do their homeworks with them. i love P.S 139 also because the staff and faculty show that they really care about the children. they want to see them grow and succeed. i feel comfortable raising any issue about my son to the principle or asistant principal of Kindergarten. here's to a wonderful rest of the school year.

Just found original 6th grade picture from 1953. Had Mr. Cohen who's claim to fame was teaching us to multiply on our fingers. What a concept.
