Onteora Middle School

Wonderful school with dedicated teachers and a stable administration.Getting kids from private schools and NYC and they are thriving. My son was here 8th.-12th. grade , took lots of AP classes, was given given a major scholarship at college and will be graduating in 3 years. Ignore those reviews from a few angry parents over a decade ago...Your child will be in good hands at Onteora K-12.

Onteora has many terrific teachers that are not only knowledgeable about their subject matter, but also great at understanding how to help kids with different learning styles and personalities really thrive in their classrooms. Amazingly, they are flexible and accommodating of differences and as a result the kids are happy and enjoy learning. Socially, there are kids from many different backgrounds here so, although it is a small district, it is not hard for kids to find a group of peers with similar interests.

Honestly, the bad reviews for this district are pathetic!! Really?? This is a GREAT school district!! My daughter graduated with high honors and scholarships. She is now attending Binghamton University and WELL ahead of the game. We THANK Onteora!! My son attends the middle school. Though he is remote learning due to COVID, he is thriving academically! Had we still lived in NJ, there is NO WAY my kids would have thrived. Talk about over-populated and crime-infested!! If THAT'S what you want for your kids, then move there! We are grateful for the Onteora community and so happy we moved here!

Overpaid staff. Kids are horrible here. Bullying ect... find yourself a better school for your children than onteora.

My children have been in the Onteora district since kindergarten. The district is pathetically small, lacking diversity and has drug problems starting at the middle school. Some good teachers, but only if you are going to support the instruction at home. Administration is very weak. Sports are limited and largely defeated. Some kids excel, but that is in large part due to the individual's talent, not guidance. The BOE is a joke. Members quit, move and no one wants to run due to the antagonism. And they wonder why people are home schooling and choosing private schools...
