John Vanderburg Elementary School

These people want their money above anything else. I've had problems with all 3 of my kids not getting into preschool all 3 years. I've had problems with my oldest with bullying, a student threatened to stab other students, went to stab my son and threatened to kill a 2nd grader and often exhibited violence but it was my kid that ended up in trouble. My daughter was bullied here. Their enrichment classes and preschool are also NOT determined by "lottery" it is by teacher and PTO preference. They give parents who have been picking up kids for the past 5 years problems for picking up their kids and also clap back and say that you cannot drop your kid off at 8:25am for breakfast. This is not a 4 star school it has gone downhill and Selma F Bartlett would be rolling in her grave seeing as to how this school is being managed now

This is my daughter's first year, not in private school, so we were a little apprehensive about enrolling her at Twitchel. Our experience has been nothing short of amazing! The majority of the reason is because Miss Christina Garcia is an absolute angel teacher sent from heaven! She really cares about all of her students. She's very communicative and we always know what's going on in the classroom with our child. She even makes the kids feel special by implementing fun Friday! I know my daughter looks forward to it every week. Last week they even got their nails done! The amount of care That has gone to teaching the kids in this first grade class, is just amazing. If it wasn't for Miss Garcia, I think our experience would be much different. We are so grateful for her!

This school is good with good teaching. Their is no bullying, the lunch food made my kids sick that's the only downfall I think about this school.

This is school is for a certain type of child. One that always follow directions, has no special needs, and is quiet. If they don’t fit that mold, students are labeled as problem children. Teachers are responsible for far too many children to watch them all properly. My child was consistently bullied. No one EVER communicated with me first. I had to reach out to find out what my child was referring to. When I did, they were already aware of the situation, but chose to only speak with the bullies parents and not the victims. Stating “boys will be boys” as the excuse. Children are taught random facts to appear knowledgeable, but lack the common needs of a preschooler (alphabet, numbers, reading, writing).More attention is given to students and families who are more available to assist at school. Those who work and are unavailable are pushed to the side and not communicated with consistently.

This school is a hidden gem in the heart of Green Valley. We have been here for 4 years now and every year gets better. If you are interested in private school at a fraction of the cost of other private schools, you've found that choice! Low student to teacher ration, and large classrooms. The teachers and staff nurture all of the kids at a developmentally appropriate rate, and my kids are thriving here. Bonus- there are super fun events throughout the school year!
