After the teacher’s lecture my daughter would not always understand what it was the teacher was trying to say the first time around and would sometimes need it explained in a different way to help her get it. Her first grade teacher was great at this. But then in second and third grade, instead of taking the time to answer her questions her teachers would accuse her of not listening well enough and she would be chastised but not helped. So of course she eventually just stopped asking questions. And when she started scoring poorly on tests the teachers blamed her. Their solution was to send her to the resource room for a half hour a day where they didn’t even work on class material with her! The class sizes here are large and the teachers have no patience for any child who doesn’t understand a lesson immediately. Rather than taking the time to help them learn they would rather just blame the kid.

Scarcelli Elementary is exceptional. The principal is involved with the student body, the teachers and staff care about their kids and know the kids. Over the years, I have recognized the extra efforts of teachers to challenge my children academically. The school environment is peaceful for children, no bullying is tolerated. -a parent
