We're a military family. My child came from an A+ charter school in a previous state. My child was an "A" student and made the honor roll many times throughout elementary school and middle school. My child was enthusiastic and motivated and loved public school.I was excited to know that there was a separate Freshman Academy in Clovis. However, the first few weeks of school turned drastically wrong.I found out that there was a mass exodus of math teachers in the district.Unfortunately, my child received a math teacher who had never had a professional teaching course, much less a teaching degree (teacher had a degree in business). The first two weeks of my child's math class was taught by a substitute teacher. The next two weeks were taught by the new math teacher who showed how to do geometry to honor students via a slideshow.According to my child, the classroom was unorganized and the teacher out of her league. The geometry teacher NEVER went over homework the next day and would take 5 to 8 days to grade the homework papers.I wish I could say that's all I had to deal with but the English, Science, and History teacher had numerous issues as well. We're looking into homeschooling.

I was very disappointed with this school.I had issues with teachers (Geometry,English,Biology, and History)not grading homework on time, not posting grades online in a timely manner(the last night the grades are due,not informing the student a paper was missing is not acceptable). The history teacher didn't post grades until midterms! My son is an "A" honor student, college bound and his GPA was greatly affected. Both my wife and I are professionals-both with masters degrees,so we thought emailing the teachers would be enough. It wasn't.After numerous meetings with the teachers and principal, nothing improved.Sometimes the meetings with the teachers were met with smug attitudes and no compromise. My son's grades were okay-A's, B's and some F's on homework (missing work when he was absent-teachers didn't post missing grades until last minute) that didn't bring down his grade too much. But when my son didn't pass the End of Course exams,it really made me question the quality of teaching at the Academy.I think the teachers need to make improvements ASAP.I'm researching my options for the rest of his high school career. If you attend this school, find teachers whose students passed their EOCs.

I attended Gattis Junior High School. I was a student (1963-1965). I participated in sports. Our football team went undefeated in 1965. I loved that School, Students, Teachers and Staff members. My Dad was in the U.S.A.F. at Cannon, AFB. He retired in 1965. We moved to Deming, New Mexico. I'll never forget Gattis Junior High School.

I went to Gattis Junior High School and have very fond memories. I feel the teachers I had and the friends I made helped to shape my goals and future. I think Gattis is an excellent school. I am a buisness owner and have been since 1991.

I went to Gattis Jr High during my 8th grade. I came from Phoenix, AZ. That year I became involved in sports and by the time I left that school I had a 4.0 grade point average. I highly recommend this school to anybody.
