Posted by a community member on 8/18/2023the only reason i give this school any stars is because of the teachers and the friendships. as a current student with ADHD and anxiety, this school heavily leaves behind disabled kids. that happens everywhere unfortunately, but it’s really bad here, and just because it happens in other places doesn’t mean it’s okay. other schools have it more figured out. there’s no excuses. the upper ranks such as principals and the guidance office (and even one of the social workers!) don’t really attempt at all to see things from disabled children’s sides and resort to punishment and consequences (such as tanking your grades or more serious things like detentions, removal or ineligibility from sports, or even ISS and suspensions) instead of offering any real help. the way they throw around the word “accommodations”, if i am being completely honest, disgusts me sometimes. it is often treated as almost an “if we give you ALL these ACCOMMODATIONS and you STILL can’t perform well then that’s on you” type situation and just makes disabled students feel like nuisances. for a lot of disabled students with 504s and IEPs, their accommodations are not enough. they aren’t working. and i don’t appreciate that they make you feel that you should be nothing but grateful for the bare minimum fair treatment they give you (which, based on the things said earlier, is not really all that fair anyway). i am also a low income student and can say that there’s also huge issues with the way these situations are handled. i grew up in a very complex situation. i wasn’t homeless, but we didn’t have a home of our own, and i had zero private space. this along with the traumas of living there at all AND having ADHD made it incredibly hard for me to complete work, and while teachers and the bridge counselor showed support and in some cases understanding, i still fell behind when what i needed was help. it only got worse during the COVID-19 pandemic when i wasn’t in school. again, the upper ranks offered little to no understanding of my situation, and one of the principals at the time (no longer there) continuously called my special permission to keep my camera off in my traumatic and quite honestly humiliating space a “privilege” that could be taken away if a teacher marked me as a skip because i was having trouble connecting. tl;dr, the teachers are mostly amazing and the bridge counselor is fantastic (albeit VERY busy), but the higher ups don’t care if the students are disabled or poor.
Posted by a student on 8/7/2022I watched my nephew's and niece go through JCHS and they all did well with no complaints. They have all went onto (or will be attending) college and continued to have a good work ethic. We have attended all different sorts of events from School plays, Holiday concerts, Football and Baseball and have always been impressed.

Posted by a student on 8/2/2015I am a Senior graduating this year, and I must say that James Caldwell provides a solid education from top to bottom. Certainly comparable to any private school in the area in terms of academics. Sure there are some not so great teachers, but they are in the clear minority. And I would go as far as to say that all of the teachers look out for the kids- I have never had a "disinterested" teacher. The administration effectively runs most aspects of the school, although enforcement of things like the dress code, etc could be better. Like I said- teachers are always looking to help you- they aren't out to get the students. The guidance department has been shaken up over the four years I have been here, and there is room for improvement, but I have never had any real issue- all of my college stuff was taken care of in a timely manner. And although sports (mainly football) are considered "important," the athletics program is not overwhelming, and to be honest, even the teachers who double as coaches get pretty pissed when students either miss class or claim that sports got in the way of school work.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageUpon moving to Essex Fells We pulled our children out of private school in Order for them to attend the public school here. We found it superior in all aspects. We particularly like the transparency as well as the extensive resources. The teachers and administration are exceptional. In our experience the community has been warm and welcoming. The school fosters a safe and inclusive environment. Children are encouraged to be free thinkers and helped to advocate for themselves and others and to think outside the box. Academics are rigorous and additional support readily available. The PTA as well as the Essex Fells Foundation for Educational Excellence step in to ensure that the teachers and students have full access to enrichment opportunities that go well beyond the scope of most schools both public and private. We love the art, technology and music exposure as well as the dedicated art therapy program that all the children enjoy. The school plays are exceptional. Although, admittedly, there is no real socioeconomic diversity at this school the students population has evolved to be rich with cultural diversity. Children leave here with fond memories, confident and we’ll prepared to face the social and academic rigors and challenges ahead. The fact that a significant percentage of parents here were once students at Essex Fells school and returned to town once they had children of their own speaks volumes. This school really is a gem.Parent Review7mo ago - Roseland Child Development Center

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTrinity Academy provides a great academic foundation for students to build upon in high school. The class sizes are just the right size to allow teachers the opportunity to get to know students individually. The school also has a number of extracurricular activities and sports students can participate in which helps students become more well rounded. I would definitely recommend Trinity to any parent looking for a school where students will receive a holistic education that will have them well prepared academically and socially for high school and beyond.Other Review7y ago - New Beginnings
