When my child started at LVMS, I was a bit worried because I had hear some chatter about it being a less effective school. My experience has been extremely positive. Teachers communicate clearly all the assignments that students are expected to complete via OnCourse ( a web app) and assignments are graded and communicated frequently. Parents who want to monitor their child's achievement in school are happy with LVMS. Students are expected to work independently, prepapre for tests and quizes, do homework and participate in class. For most people in the district, LVMS is the first time students are getting real letter grades, and I wonder if some of the chatter may be parents who are unhappy with the results. In my experience thus far, the teachers at LVMS are outstanding. On the negative side, the district does push a social agenda through a "Social Emotional Learning" program and an a liberal bias does persist throughout the ciriculum (much of that is coming down from the State of New Jersey).

Unfortunately, the school does not offer advanced courses like Geometry in the 8th grade and Algebra I in the 7th grade to students. It is well known that exposing students at earlier grades to more intellectually rigorous material, helps them boost GPA and SAT scores in high school and let them acquire the skills they need to succeed in college. The LVMS Gifted and Talented program is also very restricted and offered only to a very limited percentage of students comparing to the best schools in Morris and Somerset Counties. The school ranks in the top 20% in NJ - which is great but... I believe with so many talented kids out there, it would be easy to boost the school ranking to the top 10% - if only more challenging courses were offered to the students. This in turn would give so many kids a better start in life and a chance to get access to most selective collages in the country.

Unfortunately, the current principal is not qualified to lead LVMS the way it once was lead. He seems overwhelmed at times and it shows in the staff. The staff is good and could be even better if there was a stronger principal. My older children went here before Mr. I.'s rein- and it was a superb school. Hopefully our new superintendent will hold him accountable or get someone new. We have an outstanding district with excellent teachers. The principal got his job because he knew someone and it shows with his arrogance and sense of entitlement. Many assistant principals have left under him- that should say something too.
