My child loves it at RMS! The G&T program is wonderful!!! The new principal is very involved and really seems to care about the kids and making them all feel like a Viking Family. There have been some great events and they brought back recess!! The kids need a little fresh air once in a while. They have it once or twice a week, from what I understand. Which is a great improvement. Love the teachers and office staff. So glad we moved here!

I have three boys that have all attended this middle school. They all had great teachers and enjoyed attending this school. Some of the teachers really went out of their way to connect with the kids and really made a difference. All of my boys were well prepared for high school and easily transitioned to the next level.

Since the new principal started in 2013, the school schedule has changed dramatically with nine (9) 43 minute classes each school day. The students are given a 20.5 minute lunch, which does not allow enough time to go through the lunch line and have time to eat. There is only a 2 min. break between classes, so the children have to literally run to class to try to be on time. If the next class is on the other side of the school, the student has no chance of being on time. Then the students are given threats of detention if they are late. I think its cruel to drive kids like cattle, then penalize them for not being able to do the impossible. I timed my child's walk from point A to Point B and it took me 3.75 mins walking. My child said he never walks to class; he has to run. This environment is very unsafe and does not promote the well being of children, especially with the shortened lunch period. I brought my concerns to the principal, but they were ignored.

If you are looking for a stable school environment, where you feel that your opinions as a parent are valued, then I would look elsewhere. This school once started out as a consistent learning environment, but unfortunately has deteriorated. The teachers are wonderful for the most part, but the teaching staff is extremely inconsistent. During two separate years, the teacher was replaced in the middle of the year. Only one teacher between the entire teaching & aide staff has remained from when we first started. A highlight of the school is all of the specials that the children get; those are definitely a bonus! The owner of the school is extremely rigid and, at times, very unprofessional. Parental input is not only not considered but also not welcomed. Parents asked for a pajama day before the winter break and were denied this request (the children wear uniforms everyday). Parents have been hung up on when calling to ask for an explanation for a decision. The wrong conference documents were given to a class with incorrect data. The head of school is the solo decision maker and becomes instantly defensive when a parent is concerned about something. In our experience, any concern is instantly dismissed and not respectfully considered. Our contract was broken three weeks prior to school starting with a completely different class, teacher and age range changed after receiving this information in the upcoming school year summer mailing. When questioned about this very serious change we were told “then leave”. After having one child go through this school, we are pulling our youngest out mid year as the quality of education and trust towards the administrator has quickly deteriorated.
