While there were positive aspects to Hopatcong High School, it's in a district that is out of step with other, more highly rated schools that can be found in nearby towns that are socio-economically similar. Their are great teachers but on average I found the quality of instruction to be mediocre and unenthusiastic. Another issue is the relative lack of AP courses. The town of Hopatcong has enormous potential but will be forever hamstrung unless the district improves.
Posted by a community member on 9/9/2022Had to take both of my children out of this district and enroll them in to private schools. I really wish I had looked at the school system before moving here. Parents whose children have no accountability run this district and the administration is over paid while the teachers are just mediocre. No emphasis on academics just trades and sports. Actually had a teacher tell me my child should focus more on making friends than academics. Consistently low ranking overall and a recycled BOA that is not for the best interest of the town or the kids.
Posted by a parent on 3/12/2021The entire school district has made significant gains it education our children in the last few years. Their STEAM program is rated no 1 in NJ if not the entire country.

As a high school teacher, in a different and supposedly top 50 HS according to state rankings, I am constantly comparing what my own children are learning with what my students are learning and I am very happy with the education my children are receiving.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagethis school is just laughable. bullying was such a significant issue when i went here. some teachers were amazing and knew the material and how to make class engaging. others couldn’t reach at all, would teach false information, made lectures very confusing, and didn’t know how to properly talk to students. the administration is a huge joke. when i confided in them about my bullying, i was told parents would be involved and would be called. not a single phone call was made and the issue was shoved under the rug. no punishments were enforced either. the school prioritizes new chromebooks annually for every single grade (K-8) rather than the mental stability and wellness of the students. when the school had a dangerous threat, kids were sobbing their eyes out and were terrified of what would happen. administration did not allow a single student to go home. instead, they held an assembly while preaching that we were one small family. not to mention, there is literally no air conditioning except for the principal’s office. during warmer weather, classrooms can get INCREDIBLY humid. this school also CONSTANTLY cuts the budget for any art and music programs. with barely any clubs, and one sport available at this school, it’s mediocre at best. unless you hate your child, i’d steer clear of this school. it’s not worth the constant anxiety, panic attacks, and depression i had throughout my 8 years of attendingOther Review1y ago - Valley Road School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageRelocated from out of state and moved to hopatcong where my son enrolled to attend here. I find the schools here much better the the 3 it's rated. My son has some special needs as he is dyslexic and has speech delays. They are able to accommodate him and everything he does. The teachers and staff are very knowledgeable and willing to help.
